Subject: Hints Towards the New IP in the Latest News Article?

@Geegs30

Yes, ladies and gentleman, now is the time we start getting excited for Bungie's new universe. Now is the time we start making conjectures and thinking of theories that will be miles from the actual game, but nonetheless a blast to think of.

Why do I bring this up? Because in the news article "See You Starside," Urk eloquently describes Bungie's journey through the past 20 years and really makes you feel like you meant something by being part of their games. The real cream of the crop though is his last paragraph, which from what I saw in another thread, actually brought a member to tears. I myself found it very powerful and excellently written, but curiously enough, I couldn't help myself from thinking that some of his metaphors are subtle references to the new IP. Here's a copy of the paragraph I want to take a closer look at:
So, this isn't a goodbye. It isn't The End. Instead, it's the very beginning of a new journey that will stretch the limits of what we are capable of. Ancient engines are now rumbling deep within the heart of our studio, and their energy will power us through the upcoming darkness. Like all dark times ours will be broken first by a single strand of light - a tether reaching out to bind us all together again. One day, we will awaken in a wondrous new place and we will remember just what it was that drew us together at the beginning of it all. We will look up to the heavens, and find hope.

These phrases sparked my curiosity:
It isn't The End (why capitalized?)
beginning of a new journey
Ancient engines are now rumbling deep
energy will power us through the upcoming darkness
dark times will be broken first by a single strand of light - a tether reaching out to bind us all together again
awaken in a wondrous new place
look up to the heavens, and find hope

In this next game, are we a stranded member of some race, cut off from others and in an foreign land? Do the references to stars mean we'll be hopping from planet to planet trying to bind together our splintered species?

Well, what do you think?

Disclaimer: Sorry mods if this should be in the Bungie Universe Forum. I honestly wasn't sure because it was about a news article. Could go either way in my eyes, feel free to move it if necessary.

Wake me, when you need me.

Well, I think what you're trying to go for is a bit of a long shot. It is definitely a possibility.

I won't hold any speculation until further reveals.

If you're reading this, congratulations. You've just pressed a button to find out a little bit more about me. Not that you will, but well done anyway.

There could be hints in there, or it could just be Urk's style. I'm interested primarily in how much they've already decided upon for their new universe. How much do they already know, do they have their characters, plotlines, settings all thought out? Or is it just a feeling, waiting to be crafted, at the moment?

Who knows?

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

urk has been dropping so many hints lately that it could get him fired. It seems pretty obvious what Bungie is working on: an MMORPG of some sort set in the galaxy where you conquer planets and civilizations (+Spore).

Can't wait xD

I know for a fact they've definitely been working on this next IP for years now. A small team locked into a high security compound slowly building up their next universe. I bet they started production after Halo 3's launch. An even smaller team of writers and artists coming up with ideas on their spare time. After ODST's launch, I'd bet half of the employees went towards working with Reach, while the other half went working on new IP-related stuff. These numbers may be a little extreme, give or take. Now, I remember a statement from Bungie regarding the departure with Microsoft in '07: "something...rejecting new-IP ideas". If that was in '07, you'd have to agree they've definitely been scheming for years.

Before hand he had said Bungie was going dark. That paragraph could be just a very descriptive one on the emotions we will get when Bungie comes back and tells us what they crafted up this time.

You know our motto, We deliver!

Reach for the stars!

Sounds probable. When I read the news article, I had a strong suspicion that they were throwing hints around. But I didn't want to dive into it.

I certain that it's going to be a space/ universal based... universe though.

I think this is one of those hints that's a hint just because it's supposed to mean something but nothing at all in particular.

Y'know?

Still, if it does turn into something that the Universe forum is full of analyzing, I think we'd only get to that after we know all it would have revealed.

Like figuring out a parable after learning the lesson.

Yeah I think that's a safe bet. Where else could Bungie go, underwater? Nah.

Yeah I know. But this is the time we get excited and start making guesses. Waiting around is no fun; since Bungie is going dark, we'll have to hype it up ourselves for now.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I noticed a lot of those phrases, too. I was especially suspicious when "The End" was capitalized. And knowing Bungie, these probably are hints for something. We definitely didn't get enough hints to actually find out anything, but it's interesting nonetheless.

  • 07.09.2011 12:55 PM PDT

I think Urk's just trying to be dramatic.

As long as it isn't like Halo Wars I can't wait either.

"And i will show you where the iron crosses grow..."

- "Cross of Iron"

Sounds plausible. If only we had one more smidgeon of information to go on...

ALL MY MONEY.

Anyways, I noticed that "The End" was captilized, but I didn't think anything of it.

What are we supposed to be discussing here?

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

It's a good thought but still way too vague.

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

I would be more concerned about the picture they showed for the title.
That seems to be telling us something.

V: I can assure you I mean you no harm.
Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.
Alas, so many quotes, so little room in the signature box.

I'm pretty sure you guys are over-thinking it. I think he capitalized it because he meant the "The End" at the end of a book.

I am so happy we are returning to the conjecture of old!
I see where you are coming from, this metaphor does seem to lead of ideas of imprisonment, but more importantly hope, perhaps the new project is based in rebellion? that would be fantastic in my opinion.

But i also seen this as what it could be in the literal sense, we may be quiet, but we work, and we will come back with glorious fire!

everybody listen to mac2po he is 100% right

Personally I felt he was really emphasizing on "creating a new universe". I feel that, even though it was said to be a joke, they could still very well be working on an MMO(FPS?).Also why all the faction shirts? the first thing that comes to mind when I see something like that when, referring a game, is MMO.

These phrases sparked my curiosity:
[quote]It isn't The End (why capitalized?)
Possibley just using the term for what it is. At the end of something that warrants "The End" it's always capitalized. It's a fragment of speech, not an extension to the sentence.

beginning of a new journey
It wont be a shooter, (probably) I think we can count on that.

Ancient engines are now rumbling deep
They are pulling idea's from their Pre-Halo days so possibly RPG / MMO related.

energy will power us through the upcoming darkness
Urk is just being poetic here IMO - or lightly referencing the fact that they'll be dark for longer than any of us want, they will hate it, and we'll be the light that keeps them alive knowing we'll be excited as fans when they give us the details.

dark times will be broken first by a single strand of light -
a tether reaching out to bind us all together again
I would assume this means there will be an ARG. ilovebee's and the SI were shining examples of a beacon of light that brought a lot of the community together, got us buzzing and excited for whats coming.

awaken in a wondrous new place
Again, noting they are not going to be making a shooter, it'll be fresh, new, different.

look up to the heavens, and find hope
Space reference. If their next game has nothing to do with space in some way they are the biggest ass-hats of all time because they have been alluding to that being the theme for their next game for a while now.

I've been thinking on this as well. Since they are not restricted to one platform, Bungie can produce something mind-blowing. In my mind they are more than capable of making a MMOFPS for console gaming. Think about the game Dust 514. It is a FPS bridge to the game EVE online. So, this opens up new grounds for Bungie to explore, or should I say universe?

(I could be wrong, but hey, thats the fun of speculation.)
