Yes, ladies and gentleman, now is the time we start getting excited for Bungie's new universe. Now is the time we start making conjectures and thinking of theories that will be miles from the actual game, but nonetheless a blast to think of.
Why do I bring this up? Because in the news article "See You Starside," Urk eloquently describes Bungie's journey through the past 20 years and really makes you feel like you meant something by being part of their games. The real cream of the crop though is his last paragraph, which from what I saw in another thread, actually brought a member to tears. I myself found it very powerful and excellently written, but curiously enough, I couldn't help myself from thinking that some of his metaphors are subtle references to the new IP. Here's a copy of the paragraph I want to take a closer look at:
So, this isn't a goodbye. It isn't The End. Instead, it's the very beginning of a new journey that will stretch the limits of what we are capable of. Ancient engines are now rumbling deep within the heart of our studio, and their energy will power us through the upcoming darkness. Like all dark times ours will be broken first by a single strand of light - a tether reaching out to bind us all together again. One day, we will awaken in a wondrous new place and we will remember just what it was that drew us together at the beginning of it all. We will look up to the heavens, and find hope.
These phrases sparked my curiosity:
It isn't The End (why capitalized?)
beginning of a new journey
Ancient engines are now rumbling deep
energy will power us through the upcoming darkness
dark times will be broken first by a single strand of light - a tether reaching out to bind us all together again
awaken in a wondrous new place
look up to the heavens, and find hope
In this next game, are we a stranded member of some race, cut off from others and in an foreign land? Do the references to stars mean we'll be hopping from planet to planet trying to bind together our splintered species?
Well, what do you think?
Disclaimer: Sorry mods if this should be in the Bungie Universe Forum. I honestly wasn't sure because it was about a news article. Could go either way in my eyes, feel free to move it if necessary.
