In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I notice we have our fair share of people posting in different languages, but what if an automatic translater was developed so some other common languages would be converted to the English language.

What do you guys think? Please discuss and thank you.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

Hilarity would ensue.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I wouldn't want one. For the simple fact that translators are about as useful as that guy down the street that doesn't know Spanish, but he's still pretty good at the guesswork.

Actually not a bad idea.

Bungie is in Merica, noesbody eelse mater!!!!

Seriously though, a translator would be a COMPLETE waist of the web teams time, simply because they are are likely to fail, and there are already MANY other universal ones online.

So no.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

A translator/Bungie.net in different languages is a perfect idea that's been tossed around over the years. If Bungie is truly serious about taking over the world, they must be able to contact folks in different languages. Honestly, any counter-argument against this idea is rather foolish and ridiculous. There are no disadvantages to having this website in other languages. Now, the forums don't need to be universal (it would be cool if it did); and it wouldn't be too hard to add. It's as simple as sending the user input to a database for conversion.

I'm sure the Web team is aware of this idea and they've considered doing it--you never know. Bungie.net will be going through a metamorphosis soon, we may see this as part of the new website.

Yeah, and I know Bungie could probably easily a language converter for the site.

But, I think if someone posted in Spanish for example, their posts should become English for everyone else and vice versa.

Do you have any idea how badly languages translate to each other through even our best public translation software?

Yes but I would rather try understanding something poorly written in English than see threads written in like Spanish, French, etc.

English or bust.

I wouldn't. That's pretty irritating to read, especially if they're trying to use textspeak through a translator. That's partially the reason why lots of popular sites in other languages don't offer translation services for other languages. If you want to hang with them, you've got to learn their lingo.

You can't even tell when someone is mocking you.

This would fail for many, many reason. A lot of languages have words and phrases that mean different things in different context. One of the main reasons America went to war with Japan in WWII was due a simple mis-translation because of context.

The system it would take to implement this is absurdly complex that no one has perfected yet. The system would have to auto-detect a language, (with a lot of languages being similar out there) then translate it, (which probably wouldn't be grammatically proper) and finally edit the post.

Also, you left out the fact that this would be a completely one-sided function. What good would a non-english speakers post being translated into English be for the poster if they can't read all the English replies?

This is a simple case of English being one of the most used and dominent languages in the world. Considering the majority of people here probably use English as a first language this whole idea is moot. If you can't speak/type/read English then there are many other sites that you can go to to accommodate you.

Aside from the stats Bungie is almost like any other forum. Everything but the stats can be seen on different sites by non-English speakers. Honestly, if they want to come here then they need to adapt because they are the minority.

Most girls I've been with were hesitant about taking it in the mouth. But once they did most would swallow. I got tons of compliments on the taste.

I think it's because of my diet. No fast food, no alcohol and lots of fruit.

I would start posting in my Spanglish just to see how it turns out.

I could see it now. People just mindlessly posting in another language to make people have to convert it.. I don't think the benefits would outweigh the headaches.
