Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

In the prologue of Ghosts of Onyx, towards the end after Lucy and Tom jumped into the water, the author wrote:

"Lucy was tiny. Like Tom, she was only twelve years old, but at one point six meters and seventy kilos, Lucy was one of the smallest Spartan-IIIs. Without her SPI armor and weapons, and her pale form covered only in modest body sheathing, she looked even smaller".
Now I know that Spartan training started very young for the children, but I never knew that twelve year olds were being sent into battles detonating massive bombs! Have they been injected with all forms of chemicals? Why does the UNSC/ONI send them out so young?

They started training at the age of 4-6, in their first night on Onyx, the members of Alpha Company were forced to para-drop into a forest and to go to a waypoint at night time. When they turned 12, they were augmented and sent to their missions.

ONI didn't have any repercussions as they were mostly Orphans, so in their minds, they'd rather use them than let them waste. Besides, the augmentations only worked on teenagers, so adults were ruled out of the equation, not to mention it's more efficient to raise a kid into warfare than to teach an adult.

Expressing my strong liberal views without shame. Favorite quotes below:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."
"One starts to live when he can live outside himself."

- Albert Einstein

Spartan IIs weren't sent out on such explosive missions at that age, however Spartan IIIs are a different story.

They Spartan III project was specifically designed to buy the UNSC some time, even if that meant sending 300 augmented 12 year olds on suicide missions.

Oh that makes tons of sense! That's where I was lost: I didn't know they were augmented; I thought one they matured a bit they were sent into battle. Thanks!

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Posted by: acnboy34Twelve you say?

They were supposed to die. As long as they could complete the mission, it didn't really matter how old they were.
