I just thought it would be cool to see other peoples opinions on what key factors are pivotal to a good Halo game... here are some of my personal thoughts:

Single player:

Sense of scale
Epic views
Fun, accessible vehicles
"silent" but bad ass protagonist
contrast of human/covenant/forerunner structures
NEEDLER
headshotting grunts
marines
co-op
Lush environments
lonely missions
epic cutscenes
not too corny dialogue

Multiplayer:

CTF
Varying maps
Spatters
Multi kills that feel rewarding
medals
choice
variety of game modes and playlists
fun with friends AND solo
captures scenes throughout the Halo universe
map packs enhance the experience
oddball
updates
one shot kill sniper headshot
NO knifing
fun yet challenging
theatre
custom games (infection)

run and gun, plain action, really funny moments eg traffic cone kills, cross map stickies, etc

none of that CoD realistic stuff, it's almost arcade gaming but modern.

Also, pure shooting and simple melee, no down the sights or bloom, just skill.
(If you get what I mean)
