Subject: A discussion on censored words

Many words are censored for obvious reasons and instead of using them we are told to come up with better alternatives instead of bypassing it. But how far can an alternative word be before it is considered bypassing the censored word?

Take the f-word for example. You can easily bypass this by typing it out with an extra "u". However I like to not bypass it, but rather use the alternative word of "fark". Does fark mean the same thing as the f-word? If a mod was going to ask me that, I would say no. Of course it doesn't, it's a completely different word just like "cat" and "car".

What do you think about it?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Well, un-blamming any blammed word is bypassing the swear filter.

But the mods don't normally care unless you like flame people and keep doing it.

It is not the words themselves that are bad it is how they are used.

Except this thread isn't about flaming someone, it's about bypassing the farking censor.

You can bypass the f-word without using it to insult and be banned.

Yes, it depends on the mods.

You are NEVER supposed to evade the blam filter and I wouldn't do it.

Are you likely to be banned for doing it here and there, no.

Will you get banned if you do it a lot or have chances to get a lengthy ban, yes.

But I'm not bypassing the censor, I'm doing what the mods always tell us to do, finding a better word to use.

As do I.

But these "bypasses" will always be there, if not an alternative to one swear there will be another word which compliments it (in the bad way). Unless we develop some sort of super censoring system, which is able to sound out the alternatives you suggested (like fark) to bust 'em (-blam!-).

Fark and the f-word are different words though and don't mean the same thing. Some words in life sound the same (there and their) but don't mean the same thing so it shouldn't be assumed that they mean the same thing. Me saying "what the fudge"" could just be me saying "what happened to the fudge?"

I agree with you, I'm saying that it's near impossible for an automatic system to completely censor foul language through their various uses and alternatives on the forums. Unless each post is moderated before being published, there's no stopping it. Also, most of the time, people use those alternatives for the wrong definitions than right.

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

If you're just going to start using "fark" it will probably only be a matter of time until somebody bans you. Personally, I do think bypassing the filter is sometimes acceptable but this probably isn't one of them.

Even though it's not really bypassing (I know of somebody being warned/banned for "shat" before so it's obviously punishable but solely depends on the mod and circumstance)

Good farking luck, baller.

I think that bypassing the filter is bad. It's like punching a dead mouse in a pool skimmer. So uncivilized this work would be.
