Subject: Are you sad about Bungie leaving?

Bungie is only surviving now because they have a dedicated (Not, Halo's fanbase isn't dedicated, just a bunch of hyper 8 year olds) and that's because they focus on relating to you and saying stuff like 'Moar Sausage' or 'Sup3r 1337 f00t4g3 0f H470 4.;

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

No.

-blam!- Bungie, all they did was create a horrible game which wasn't bad at first. Then they denied any problems with it and refused to address any nor fix massive issues. The last straw was when they pretty much mocked the community.

Good riddance.

Not really.

I mean, I thank Bungie on my bare knees for what they've created over the past 10 years. A truely amazing, epic and most importantly: constant high quality series.
What they did is unforgettable in the good sence of the word.

However, you could feel Bungie was already over Halo. You could see they didn't have the same motivation for the series as they had at the start. And you could already feel that setting in with Halo 3. And whereas the first 2 were all near perfect games, the quality within the series started to fluctuate from 3 on.
Are 3, ODST and Reach bad games? No, by far not. But they lacked the soul the first 2 did have.

And 343i may not have made games on their own so far, but that doesn't matter. With their work (books, Legends etc etc) they've shown to have more passion for the series than Bungie had the past few years. So I am sure they will do a great job. They have talented people on board who've worked on big titles (BiA, MGS, Halo 1/2, Borderlands, etc) so we don't have to worry about them being a bunch of amateurs or whatever.

I don't mind Bungie leaving because its probably best for both parties.
Halo will probably be better off with 343i, and Bungie will probably refind the passion and put heart and soul into their new game.

Please don't send me PMs about your Bungie group. I don't care.

I hear you BTW, Kat is the worst AI I have ever had in my turret. The Elite who hi-jacked her was better!

Sort of. While it sucks they are leaving Halo. I for one am excited to see what new universe they come up with, and what Halo easter eggs I can find in said game. ;) That said, I also plan on buying the new game on the PS3 just 'cause.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

"I love Halo: Reach! I was one of those lucky souls to get my copy a day before the published release date, and I haven't stopped playing it since. My only concern is that since it is called "Halo: Reach instead of, say, "Halo 4," that there aren't going to be any more. Please tell me this isn't true and that you already have another in the works!

Ben-

Imagine a painting of a horse, a marvellous white stallion. This stallion happens to be lying in a crumpled heap on the ground, dead. And Bungie employees are standing around it in a semicircle, beating the horse with various blunt objects. The painting is titled "Halo 4."

Well, okay, that's overstating things. We're very proud of the Halo series, but it's not the only thing we can do. Rather than getting into a rut and spitting out a new Halo game every year, we're going to try some new stuff.

Some gut-wrenchingly cool new stuff.

Stand back and prepare to be amazed."

"BXR. Yea, it's cheating." - Highlight of the last night of Halo 2

I am definitely interested in what Bungie will do now, but also sad because Bungie made Halo so epic. They are an awesome team who made awesome games and i'm hoping 343 will carry the torch well.

As much as i appreciate bungie i'm not sad that they are leaving.

they've done their part now it's time for someone else to take the lead. on top of that i'm kind of angry with them for Reach
More or less this. I appreciate that they've created an amazing universe, and provided us with some fantastic games, but I do feel that they've had enough of Halo. That showed in Reach. It was frustratingly disappointing, specifically the Campaign.

I look forward to what they create next, and am truly excited about where Frankie, and the team at 343, take Halo.

I love Halo. I love Bungie. I've been around Bungie since Oni, so yes, I did - at some point - feel sad that they were leaving the Halo series.

I, however, am ready to see what Bungie is capable of when they aren't tied down to sticking to past games. Zero hype. Respawn. Its not game over, its something far better. I believe the Bungie team, especially the veterans, and raring to go. Its like a new tomorrow for these guys especially. Besides, lets face it...Halo 2, 3, and Reach as games were average. It was fun, and allowed for huge customization, but for gameplay and set pieces it was average. Not much innovation. Halo was destined to be a primarily multiplayer game, its just too bad that the campaigns don't follow the same level of quality that the millions of pages of fanfiction and universe novels do.

Now Bungie can blow our minds, just like they did ten years go, on November 15, 2001.

I have low standards for Halo 4. 343 Studios botched Halo Wars, and no self-respecting RTS or Halo fan can deny that. I would play Halo 4 because I want to see my old friend Master Chief again, but not because I believe it will be good. Keep your spirits in check people. Openly believe that Halo 4 will suck, but don't smother that little glimmer of hope that it could break boundaries.

Not sad that they're leaving. Just disappointed with the way it happened. It's hard to explain, but the whole 'closing down' period seemed so dead. Post-Reach, the atmosphere was so lifeless that it seemed to be fore-shadowing this. Oh well. Hopefully things will be brighter when Bungie comes back.

  • 07.11.2011 6:08 AM PDT

I'm going to say I'm pretty happy. After the failures that ODST and Reach were, Bungie needs to step back, look at what they've been doing and fix it. I'm even mildly excited to see their new IP.

  • 07.11.2011 8:07 AM PDT

Biased poll is biased.

Why didn't you have a "No, Im happy to see Bungie move to a new IP and trust 343i to keep Halo good."

Because thats how I feel.

Ensemble were the ones who made Halo Wars though, not 343i, they haven't actually made any games yet. I don't think Halo 4 will suck at all, but other than that I'm not really sure what to expect as 343i has yet to go on their first test run, I have every confidence in the story though, we've seen their quality there.

Anyways, more on topic now.
As with any part there is some sadness to it. It's kinda sad to see Bungie and Halo finally parting ways and each going tout their own way in the big wide world. But I think it's probably for the best that Bungie split off, Microsoft would have most likely have had them only working on Halo, and after a while, no matter how much you may love a series or your creation, it will eventually get stale and you won't want to work on it. I think Bungie was beginning to come to that threshold.

  • 07.11.2011 10:03 AM PDT

I wanted to see one more game with Joe Staten and Jason Jones who were the main brains behind the Halo Universe and the leaders of 1 and 2 (Joe worked on 3 and ODST a little) considering they had nothing to do with Reach. It's a shame they didn't grace Reach with their brains.

From what I've already seen, it seems like 343i knows what they're doing. I trust that Frankie, Shishka, and Vic will put some insight from their former years at Bungie into their company.

I even heard that the terminals in Halo CEA will have the kind of art that they had in The mona lisa and Headhunter and Halo legends, if thats true i will flip.

Yeah, how dare they show some kind of innovation with the Terminals instead of keeping the barely readable text that only appears for 30 seconds! -_-

It is undoubtedly difficult to see the creators of Halo leave the franchise, but it is for the best. Bungie have worked on Halo for ten years - longer than any other franchise they've created before. Sure, Halo has been hugely successful, but it's reached the point where a new driver is needed, hence 343 Industries.

In fact, I can't wait to see what Bungie have in store for us next.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

The good Bungie died long ago. I couldn't care less about the new Bungie that dropped a hot one like Reach on all of us then left.

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

It will be weird to play a non-Bungie Halo game, hopefully it doesn't suck. But I can't wait to see Bungie's new game.

343 wont make any mistakes , i mean look at the defiant map pack they made that and it was "quite awesome" to put it in scientific terms.
343 wont make it "suck" because they are made mostly of people who have been making halo from the start.

You can't say that with absolute certainty. And no, only 5 people at most had any experience with previous Halo games, not moist of the team.

I'm going to ignore the second blatanly wrong part of your post since that's already been taken, onto the first.

The idea that you think 343 is perfect is kind of funny to me, I guess you also think Bungie makes perfect games? If so, you have low standards.

If not and a simple map pack and a silly anime show are enough to make you believe wholeheartedly in a studio that hasn't even made a game yet, I guess you still have low standards and just aren't too bright.

I'm glad they're leaving. I want to see what they can do next. Halo is in good hands with 343. They got a lot of talent.
