I will never understand how or why Jason takes a smaller role at Bungie (or at least based on the credits) since Halo 2. I do not recall seeing him in any interviews for 3 or anything after that. I'm going to guess he'll have a bigger role with Bungie's next big thing, but since Halo 2, it just seems like he disappeared. He wanted to stop Halo after Halo 2. Microsoft demanded that they make 3 more games in order for them to become independent.
He doesn't really like to be in the spot light. The most you can see him in an interview is the "New Beginnings" video.
And he is the biggest role in Bungie's new project.
Indeed, Jason Jones probably hates the spotlight as much as he hates making sequels. There is no point of being in the spotlight, like Ken Levine or John Carmack, when there are literally hundreds of people working on a AAA video game. I'm surprised Jason even appeared in that "new beginnings" video.
Originally Bungie wanted to stop Halo after Halo 2. I believe their plan was to make Halo 2 this really epic masterpiece with a lengthy campaign. The plan backfired really badly since they only had, what?, like 2 years to make Halo 2. Even then the game is in general better than Halo 3 and Halo: Reach because, I personally think, it lacked the direction of Jones and Staten.
Edit: Also correction to the OT. Jason wasn't really a designer on Halo: Reach. He is listed as additional support. Which means it was more like feedback on the game; similar to his role in Halo 3.
