Today I was discussing Halo 3: ODST with my friend and what it might have to do with Halo 4. One of the best features was the in-depth characters. Who doesn't want more of Buck, Romeo, Mickey, Dutch, the Rookie, and Dare? I personally miss the "Helljumpers" as much as I miss the Chief.

We put this idea into a broad overlook between these two special warfare groups of the UNSC. It would begin with two separate stories that would fuse into one as the ODSTs are recruited by Dare on a mission to intercept Cortana's distress signal. The Chief and Cortana would be surviving in the Forerunner Planet along with a rag-tag group of Spartans that have been held captive. Here is an option that lets the player customize his own armor, service tag, and gender, like in Halo Reach without effecting the Chief. You could be one of those rescued Spartans allying him/herself with the Chief. And you could also customize yourself as the Rookie which would give the game a double-customization element.

Online you could choose which sort of soldier to play as. ODSTs obviously need an upgrade to give them a chance to battle against their Spartan counterparts. This would be the remainder of the Visor HUD system along with two "armor abilities." Sprint would be a constant with the option of an actual armor ability. They do not have all the body armor of a Spartan slowing them down. They also have somewhat of a stealth element, so they should not show up on motion trackers, unless on a full sprint. This would also add some of the variations in multiplayer gameplay fans have been waiting for. Spartans for a full out assault and ODSTs for the stealthy players.

There could also be a Spartan and ODST version of firefight along with a mixture option letting you battle your enemy as both. Not to mention some weapons should be exclusive to Spartans and some to ODSTs. Spartans would probably play the same way as in Reach with one armor ability, shields, and motion trackers. Spartans appear on motion trackers at walking speed however, because sprint will be an armor ability for them. ODSTs however will not appear on the Spartan's motion tracker. Overall, I love playing as an ODST and I do not want to loose that option!

If you took your time to read all of this, thank you! Also, if you have something to add or an opinion feel free to share. And if you are 343 Industries, I hope you like these ideas and possibly use them!

Would love it.

But how the -blam!- would that work? With chief begin alone in space and all.

But to play as one in multiplayer would be sweet, and brutes, grunts and spartan II and IIIs.

I dont think you should be able to play as the ODSTs in Halo 4, BUT I think there should be more ODST games made.

No because if you played as ODST then Spartan levels would seem too easy
After you said that it seemed like an even better idea.

ODST's having easier missions that spartans.
And Spartans having hard missions.

Would be so awesome to switch between small and big, fast moving, slow moving, high jump heigth and stong and so on.

Not really. The Spartans would be sent on 1 vs 1 million battles while the ODSTs would function in team warfare instead of a lone wolf killing machine atmosphere.

No, not in the standard campaign at least. But I would like if they added bonus missions that take place in different events just too fill in canon gaps...maybe in something like that.

It would probably only be in a select few missions or in cooperative campaign. Player two could choose to be an ODST.

No, I want to play as the best. I would feel handicapped, because the character is, if I continued to play as an ODST. After playing as an ODST and then a spartan III, I'm ready to return to the shoes of a spartan II. I miss being a bad ass and jumping into battles and basically -blam!-ing -blam!- up

First I would hate to be the second player cause then I would have to hide behind cover more often. Secondly, I would hate to be the first player cause I would always have to be looking out for the ODST to make sure that he can keep up

That would be -blam!- awesome, it would make teamwork esstial.

Idk, when I think of master chief, I think of a lone soldier.

Also if I had a choice between a character who is the ODST and the spartan who is twice as good as the ODST, then I'm gonna choose the spartan. For all the clear advantages of course.

And that wouldn't be teamwork, it would be babysitting.

I just never really liked the ODST. I felt like I lost one of my senses and because of that, the battle and skirmishes had to be scaled down and easier just so I could succeed.

or like a spec ops type thing.

It would be awesome, babysiting? So what it's still awesome.

SSSIIIICCC-blam!-!!!!

Actually I like that idea because ODST was pretty fun playing as hell jumpers and all.

Would you at least like the return of Buck's team in Halo 4 as major characters? They are my favorite characters because they are so unique and detailed.

What? How would Halo 4 be a sequel to an addon?

hahaha having a sequel to an expansion. That is when it is offical that halo is going downhill

  • 07.10.2011 4:49 PM PDT

Not a sequel. A return of the characters along with the Chief, who would obviously be the main character.

Not a sequel eh? Is that why it's called Halo 4?

  • 07.10.2011 5:12 PM PDT

Try to understand the damn question and stop being such a smart-ass! It would not be a sequel to Halo 3: ODST (the add-on as you put it). Halo 4 from this perspective would be a sequel to Halo 3 featuring the main characters from Halo 3: ODST, but leaving the Master Chief as the main protagonist probably with the Forerunners being the main antagonists. Satisfied?

Well, that would be too far to travel but it could work, then i would see arbiter aswell, we need a spartan campagin, elite campagin and odst campaign.

Taylor Gang! 420

Have those camera helmets like Jenkins in Halo CE but each one is playable like a side story. kinda like sadie's story was a side story to ODST, then the side story interacts with the main like in the data center on ODST

  • 07.10.2011 5:38 PM PDT

Why would you see the Arbiter? He has left Earth. How would he have anything to do with the Chief? Also, who says you need to have a separate campaign? They can explain how the ODSTs got there with a simple cut-scene. You are insanely annoying and very stupid! If you are going to argue please add some sort of thought into what you are saying, think about what it means, and make sure it makes sense!
