Carter would crash into him with a pelican.

Them linking back up, then surviving a GIANT Covenant assault without Romeo and Mickey (who were piloting a phantom for evac), and protecting the engineer, Virgil, who possessed vital Covenant intel. They escaped while going up against similar odds that Spartans are sent into and survived only with Romeo wounded. And also, Spartan 3s are not too impressive in my book. They were created for their sheer numbers and sent on suicide missions most of the time. Carter wasn't a Headhunter, he was a normal Spartan 3. Also even if he didn't kill the two Hunters, obviously he still would have gone through some firefights on the way to save Dare.

Come back when 300 ODSTs arrive and fight for 7 straight days in a Covenant Refinery and kill, I don't know, a couple of thousand Elites, Grunts and Jackals.

For this argument of your's to make sense these have to be Spartan 3s. Are they? And also, I'm not saying all ODSTs are better than Spartan 3s. I'm just saying Buck's squad is almost as efficient as a Spartan squad.

Not really. Reach was a far deadlier and more dangerous engagement than Earth in my opinion. On Reach, Buck's squad was not thrust into the most dangerous of assignments while Carter's was.

Regardless, if it was a fight between Noble and Buck's Squad, Buck's squad it done for.

Missions ODSTs wouldn't survive. We don't know about Carter's past, he may have been a Headhunter before Noble was created, we don't know.

From what I looked up, Carter and Kat were original members of Noble with the rest of their squad died. Carter became the leader after an unknown amount of time. It doesn't seem like he did anything else.

Carter is from Alpha Company, Kat is from Beta, there is a gap.

Remember though, this is Buck vs Carter. And don't forget that Buck battled, fought, and survived on Harvest, Reach, and Earth. And Carter may have crashed a Pelican into a Scarab, but Buck killed one with a couple of Banshees.

And yet Carter survived plenty of high-risk engagements deemed impossible for even ODSTs.

So protecting Virgil and whatever other battles he was in don't count as high-risk? He was also present during New Alexandria. Would you consider that a high-risk mission?

Sure. But how exactly does all of this make Buck even fit to fight someone like Carter. You are forgetting key elements. Carter is augmented, Buck is not. Even without shielding, MJOLNIR armor is very tough. The ODST suit is roughly equal if not slightly worse than the standard SPI armor used by S-IIIs. I could argue that a Marine Sergeant named Pete Stacker is a better fighter than Buck because he survived Reach, Alpha Halo, Earth, and the Ark.

If we have a straight up fight, Buck is toast. Why is that hard to understand?

Well than what if Buck had all of Carter's Spartan upgrades? Guess I should have put it like that. Obviously his armor is better and he is augmented. That's my fault for asking the question wrong.

Sorry, now you're just trying to do anything you can to make sure Buck has a chance. How about we strip them both for their armor and let them fight? Carter would still win. Buck is too old to even get augmentations anyway.

  • 07.11.2011 2:58 PM PDT

Carter wins. Yeah, Buck is pretty badass, how he assassinated that Brute Chieftan, but the Chieftan was distracted and was only able to finish the job after two other ODSTs helped.

And all that, 'If he was any better, he'd be a Spartan' is just bull to me, it's just fan fiction fun to get you excited about and like the character, and be interested in him because he is an exceptional ODST, but that doesn't stack up to a Spartan, they're exaggerating.

Of course there's no way he'd be a Spartan, he'd need, hmm, lets see at least another 4-5 years of training, which still wouldn't be enough because Spartans were trained from the age of 6, exposed to violence and death when they were young children.

And it don't matter, Spartan III, Spartan II, II's are just more experienced because they've been around longer, and III's get crap armor, and are sent on (literally) suicide missions at the age of 12. Carter didn't have to go through that because he stood out from the rest of the Spartans and was put into Noble Team, but they went on extremely hard missions as well and didn't receive Mark V armor until 2551.

Carter could skin Buck alive and not break a sweat, outrun him and move faster than him by a factor of at least 5.

Buck's dead.

Yeah, he's badass, but at the end of the day, he's just a grunt, and Carter's a war machine.

Whatever. Even without Buck getting the shields, personally I still think Buck would win. Buck is more cunning and strategic. He would probably just lower his shields somehow and get him with a pistol headshot. It's like the Odyssey. Odysseus was usually well outnumbered and out powered; however with his wit he still came out on top. In my opinion Buck is smarter and brain beats brawn.

I'm pretty sure Kat was the brain of Noble team. And if you are smart, I'm pretty sure you aren't going to crash a pelican straight into a scarab! Of course, that isn't really how he died.

How did he die then?

I heard he died at the same time as Jorge and another one of Noble on a separate mission on Reach. It's a cannon.

Okay you're making things up now. He crashed that Pelican into the Scarab to save Emile and Six, he was going to die regardless so he might as well take out the Scarab.

And it's canon, not cannon.

You need brains to lead a team. Kat was skilled in technology and hacking, but Carter had to be smart to keep his team alive and bring them home.

Carter didn't lose his whole squad, Carter 259 sacrificed himself. Jorge 052 sacrificed himself to destroy the Ardent Prayer and Long Night of Solace, Catherine 320 was KIA by a Skirmisher's Needle Rifle, Emile 239 was KIA by a Sangheili Zealot, and SPARTAN 213 was KIA by several Sangheili lead by Thel 'Vadamee (not yet the Arbiter), and Jun 266 is MIA, last seen escorting Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey to CASTLE Base. So no, Carter 259 did not lose his whole squad. And technically, no-one died as per ONI Directive 930.

First of all teh Field Marshall killed Kat.

Secondly why the -blam!- do you think that Thel fought Six alongside his squad?

If that's gonna be your answer then i'll have to say this:

Look at humanity, there are many left handed too, because we only saw a few of left handed sangheili doesn't means these few are the only, open your mind and consider other things.
