"A LIE is a LIE"

- Truly intelligent and deep Black ops trailer

Frankie said MC's Armour would be explained.

What do I think? its none-canon Armour. MC is still meant to be wearing the Halo 3 Armour, however 343 deliberately put in custom helmet, chest-piece and shoulder pads in the teaser to hint at the ability of customizing Armour for MC in Halo 4 like in Halo:Reach.

So my guess is you can change from the default armour if you want, or you can keep with the regular canon armour.
This is probably implemented so people don't have to stick with the same Armour for another game

Frankie mentioned that the armour change would be explained in the story. I don't see any reason for them to put in customizable armour since all it would do is create inconsistencies and piss off a lot of people.

I trust 343i to do the right thing. The way I see it, having new armour will give us a breath of fresh air.

Unless they have a really good explanation for it, I don't see any reason to change the iconic armor that has been associated with the Halo franchise for the past 7 years. I just don't want it to be like, Cortana: "Hey Chief, I found some conveniently stored mk VII armor in the Dawn. Let me magically put it on you in cryo. Also, there's a bunch of new guns on the ship that we never bothered using in the past 3 games, but here they are!"

Unfortunately for you, I think that is exactly what is going to happen.

Nobody knows how long has passed between Halo 3 and 4, so MC could have waken up between them. Don't forget the rumours about the unknown planet being called Sigma 7 by ONI or something with UNSC forces on it. If that's true, they could have an updated armour system that they give you once you find them. After all, nothing says that you won't start out with the Halo 3 armour and change to the Halo 4 one sometime in the game.

I mean, think about it, the announcement trailer isn't necessarily canon (see Halo 3's announcement trailer).

May 11 will be known as Halo 2 Day for me from now on.

Well Ive been in the Navy since June 25, 2009 and its a fun job right now.

I will say that it will be a different type of armour but hopefully not completely customizable...

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

They have no logical way to explain his new armor.

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

1. fix your title. it's NON-CANON. Idk why people are spelling it CANNON.

2. That actually could be possible. Commader Shepard's appearance is fully customizable and he's canon.

Commander Shepard has to acquire to armor first. If he has no alt. armor, he can only paint it.

How so? anyone who's a die hard supporter of canon will probably use MC's canon armour.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

It was a CGI teaser it's not meant to be 100% canonically accurate.

Unless they stupidly throw in UNSC forces in Halo 4 for no easily explained reason who have an armor upgrade to MJOLNIR.

Or... a forerunner forge or something creates a new armor for chief?

What about the possibility that there was armour on the ship?

OR..... NEWS FLASH.... 343 has allowed customisation of armour similar to Halo:reach with the default armour being the Halo 3 one

I think by the end of this trilogy, the Chief will be wearing Forerunner armour.

That'd work besides a major gaping flaw of logic. If an upgraded version of MJOLNIR (better pieces of Mark VI, or Mark VII), why was it not put on Chief before they went to the Ark as there was a pause between the flood infecting Voi and the battle of the Ark.

I didn't say it was an upgrade, maybe chief had to switch armour. Maybe he was in a fight, breaking off his cod-piece and forcing him to switch his damaged helmet, chest-piece and shoulder pads.... Or maybe something else.

I do believe this is the case, but still there should be a logical way for him to get new armour.

But why would there be MJOLNIR armor pieces lying around in the Forward Unto Dawn? Seriously, why would they even make another suit, or nearly half of a Mark VI suit just to store there?

Well, if it's a part of the game itself like Mass Effect then the game will have RGP elements to it, which is very unlikely since it's been stated many times that Halo 4 will keep the core gameplay of past Halo games with a few things added here and there (like equipment for Halo 3, or AA for Reach).

On the other hand, if it's like Reach where you can customize your campaign look just cause you want to, then people will complain that "OMGZ MASTUR CHEEF ONLEH HAZ ONE TYPE OF ARMOURZ". Think about it for a second, would you really feel like Master Chief if you were running around in pink armour with an EVA helmet? Probably not, no.

This is what I'm thinking. The only game I can cite here is Ratchet and Clank 3. There were these little vendors, where Ratchet climbs in and you basically change armour. I know many other games have done this, but I either can't think of them or haven't played them.

I have a feeling (or at least, hopes) that there will be Forerunner "armour terminals" which will allow you to change armour to Forerunner-esque types without demolishing canon consistency.

But of course, the old "It was in the Dawn" will be the answer, I can smell it. It's a shame.

In Halo Cryptum, Forerunner tech is grown around them all of the time. In Halo Legends Origins Cortana has gleaned a lot of information about the history of the Forerunner from somewhere. In the teaser trailer, an entrance to the inside of what is likely a shield world (and the planet from the Legendary ending to Halo 3 of course) is opened by some means. If I had to guess, I'd say it was PROBABLY opened by something Cortana may have done, and if Cortana is messing with Forerunner stuff on the surface of that planet, how long has she been doing it? How long were they near that planet before Chief woke up?
Anyway, what I'm getting at, is that a very simple explanation gleaned from a lot of the fiction that 343 has put out since they were formed is that this armor could have been grown around or over, or somehow INTO the armor Chief was already wearing, using technology that the Forerunner very casually use in the novel Cryptum to grow everything from a starship, to a chair, to armor of their own. And that's just what I came up with. Someone who actually has talent as an author could probably do much better than that I'm sure.
