"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Most likely not. Halo is the sum of its gameplay, story, characters and music. Without either one it would not be as good.

Although it would still be popular, just not as much. I doubt a consensus among the community at large on anything other than gameplay would yield very encouraging results.

Wasn't it praised because it sussed out controls for a console FPS, the rebounding shield and for only having 2 weapon slots? Along with vehicular and on-foot hybrid gameplay. The story-telling, too. The music was a big part of Halo's success, but it most definitely wasn't the defining factor. It was everything. The whole package.

You're right, though, music can make or break a game.

Yes.

Halo's soundtrack was iconic. Halo would likely have been a cult franchise if it didn't have such great music.

I would think not, Halo has such great music, if it were any different, it would just be weird.

In my opinion you view a game or a movie sometimes based on its Music. Nearly all good films and games have good music, because it reates an atmosphere to the game and gives it a feel. Halo has fantastic music, hopefully it can continue that, even without Marty :(

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Yes. The music wouldn't be as good though.

It isn't over unless something harder had just begun.

You came for the Halo. You stayed for the music.

  • 07.12.2011 5:54 PM PDT

probably not. marty's music is what sets halo above and beyond and really magnifies every single emotion felt through the campaign. remove his music and the sad parts aren't as sad anymore. also, the halo 2 soundtrack was (and I think still is) the best selling game score of all time. THAT'S when you know you have true gold on your hands.

It's sad to see him leave the halo franchise behind. Halo just won't be the same anymore no matter how great of a job 343 does with the story and mp.

Best. Ship. Ever!

Honestly that's a tough question to answer. There are things that I personally think wouldn't be nearly as good without their score or soundtrack, such as the LOTR trilogy. That's a trilogy where the music really adds to the depth and emotion of a scene and it loses a lot without it.

Halo is different because it's an interactive medium in which what people remember the most in general is the gameplay, which Bungie nailed. I think Halo would be just as popular with an inferior (not necessarily bad) score because the gameplay and story were solid.

As long as a game has a solid story with great gameplay it will most likely be remembered and become a franchise, though obviously having a great score helps.

I come
I kill
And i eat chicken!!

I think the music played a huge part of my childhood, however its really the gameplay which nailed halo into my soul.

BAM said the lady

Nope; not at all. The game needs to have all the things mixing together to get that great successful formula together.
