After the mission New Alexandria, Jun asks Carter if it's true that Gauntlet, Red, and Echo Teams are assigned to civilian evac ops.

Carter retorts saying those are senior level communique. Kat responds, "I hear what I hear. Point is why put Spartans on defensive deployment."

No wait. Who are Gauntlet and Echo Teams? Are they Spartan IIs? Unlikely, as Spartan II squads (generally) had color designations (Blue, Red, Green, Gray etc). I'm assuming they are other Spartan IIIs on the planet, but that is speculation.

But what struck me was Red team. This is clearly a Spartan II team. There's no way Bungie couldn't have realized that there was a Spartan II team if they named a Spartan III team Red Team.

Red Team wasn't deployed onto Reach until August 30, and this cutscene takes place on August 23.

Any explanations here guys? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Who are these teams, and why is Red among them?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Reach is full of things that are never shown or explained properly. We have no data on Gauntlet and Echo other than the fact they're Spartans, and I'm getting pissed off by the increasing numbers of S-IIIs that were "pulled out" and what-not. Eventually it will end up with nobody taking part in PROMETHEUS or TORPEDO because ALL of them got pulled out. /obvious joke

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

It was never stated that there weren't Spartans on reach before the 30th or so. The Red Team Jun was talking about could specifically be BetamRed as they were doing civilian evacs according to the radio. The resting the Spartans were probably on their way to Reach. Also Echo and Gauntlet could be Class-II since they're canon. Class-II has had extremely little development. I'd say it's class 2

BetamRed?

I was only aware of one Red Team. I highly doubt there would be two Spartan teams with the same name, even if they were of different class. I still think Red was Spartan II Red, and not some mysterious group. Perhaps they were deployed, and then taken out of action for operation Red Flag.

Remember, Red Team was divided into various subgroups, Beta Red being one of them.

Yes, but that was when they were deployed on August 30, at least from the original novel.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

There are retcons that are needed in such a case.
