The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light."

So I bought the definitive edition of First Strike and somewhere around the start (can't remember the page number) John was thinking about how he had apparently been bitten by an infection form while on Halo.

Wut.

Shouldn't he have become infected?
Could be a stupid question but...

Wasn't it based on the event John faced on the Pillar of Autumn? A Flood form managed to get into John's suit but Cortana shocked him out with the power of his suit or something along those lines, am I right?

Yeah could be... I can't remember, I'll just go with your explanation though.

Exactly. They have to bite and take hold of the subject's brain to turn them into Flood... Chief basically had an alien leech on him. It didn't get into his head, so he wasn't turned into a Flood form.

  • 07.12.2011 8:16 PM PDT

If I remember correctly the infection form slashed his neck but was killed before he got into the suit. In order to get infrected, the infection form would have to get into the body and gain access to the brain via the spinal chord.

R Rod is right, this took place in Halo: The Flood.

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Chief could have some small pieces of Flood in him. It doesn't matter. The S-II augmentations might have the same immunity that the S-I augmentations have.

  • 07.12.2011 8:40 PM PDT

In Halo: The Flood, master chief is going through a corridor and doesn't notice a flood spore. He just got done fighting so he had no shields. Flood spores need to connect there little tendrils to the victims spine to override the electical impulses sent to the hosts brain. As it inserted it's tendril through his throat Cortana quickly sent an electric pulse around the suit which popped the spore saving John.

S-I augmentations are not what gave Sgt. Johnson flood immunity. It was a medical condition from overexposure to the radiation emitted by plasma grenade detonations. This caused his nervous system to basically be erratic.

The flood can infect with a bite or a slash. The thing is, the FSC were destroyed so there was nothing there to infect John.

  • 07.12.2011 9:12 PM PDT

Infection forms use a penetrator (probably similar to wasp's stinger) to infect the victim. The victim then becomes a combat form and later a carrier form.

Uh what? Please stop posting bull-blam!- here, nobody wants to hear your false statements and you spam all forums. Pity.

Let me explain this to you so you can clearly understand: That is not S-I augmentation that gave Sgt. Johnson to be immune to Flood, that was from his medical condition called Bosen's Syndrome, which he got it from being exposed to high levels of radiations emitted by boxes of plasma grenades.

And John is NOT immune to Flood, he simply got lucky as Cortana shocked Infection form as trying to get in John's armor and connect to his brain.

"Halo, it's divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path of salvation!"

Spartans have different genetics too, if it did get in his brain, it couldn't do much. :)

Or so they say, and I'm pretty sure the augmentations caused Johnson to live.

That was actually the cover-up story for his involvement in ORION, if I recall correctly.

From the Boren's Syndrome page on Halopedia...

Opening line:
Boren's Syndrome is a fictitious human disease used as a cover up ONI created to hide the identity of the Spartan-Is.

The Halo: Graphic Novel confirms that Borens Syndrome is BS(Get it...)

Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas. - Joseph Stalin

Cortana sends electrical jolts through his armor, mark VI armor does that automatically, why do you think they blow up...

Finish the book, it also explains why Sgt. Johnson isn't infected

In the book Last Harvest or First arvest or whatever, it is confirmed that Johnson was exposed to large amounts of plasma radiation, meaning that his nervous system isn't quite able to support flood infection

I'm pretty sure he almost got infected by a flood parasie that got through a crack in his armor, but Cortana saved him by frying it.

Borren's Syndrome was a hoax created by ONI to cover up the identities of ORION Project candidates. He is immune to the Flood because of his augmentations.

I would have thought it was obvious. Borren's Syndrome. BS.
