Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

In all reality, I hear far too many rants and raves about how ODST is lack luster, and isn't a good Halo title, or doesn't deserve to sit with the other Halo titles, but hear me out, ODST is much more than the gameplay. We must take into consideration many things.

The Character
No longer are we playing the role of a galactic hero, this time around, we're more of a human being than before. This different tone and sense of survival is so fresh and relieving. Many people disagreed with the decision to not use Master Chief, but think about it. Chief has been used for almost all of his potential at this time and we need a new face. It should be seen as a welcome choice.

The Story
When we get down to it, ODST is nothing like any other Halo game. You're not on a sole mission to save people, rather, you're in an open world and you're only choice is to unravel the mystery of the previous few hours. Why was ODST's story so different? Because it brought to the table a much more human aspect. The story brings you back before the Covenant landed on Earth, and explains the social drama that occured in the hours to follow. Do not take for granted the venturing Bungie took into their anecdote.

The Gameplay
Putting firefight aside, ODST showed us that we can have fun without being a walking tank. Honestly, there shouldn't be too many people upset with the gameplay. What this adds is a new understanding to the new atmosphere created within ODST.

The Music
The somber mood given to ODST is one that is easily recognized by gamers and fans alike. But, once again, remember that you're not a Spartan and the general Halo theme is not called for. With emotion extracted in Marty's pieces are nothing but pure beauty. With a completely new set-list, ODST is definitely set apart from the other Halos.

To wrap it all up, Halo 3: ODST is a brand new Halo and deserves as much praise that is given to Halo 2. With a well executed Character, Story, Gameplay, and Music OST, ODST is not a game to be complained about. There's no large faults with the game, and remember that it is simply a larger Ad-On.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I agree with this one-hundred percent. The thing that's sad...Not many people will see this, which is a damn shame. People have just forgot about ODST and moved on. It's very saddening, all things considered. This was a phenomenal game, but so, so underrated. It deserves just as much praise as any other great Halo game.

I'm actually playing ODST at this moment. I'm taking it easy on Normal and I can't believe how many subtle hints the city gives you. "STAY RIGHT", the roads lighting up, it's spectacular. As well, the music just seems to hit a certain soft spot in me and I can fully soak in the game.

Agreed, and very well put. It really is a great game.

I can't play ODST, sadly. I need to buy a new copy because my old disc got a huge scratch on it when my friend accidently tipped my xbox over. It worked for a little while after that, then just stopped working completely. I would love to play through the campaign again. Luckily, before it broke, I got to complete it on Legendary, though. Also, if you haven't, check out Sadie's Story. It's great.

"Die? Didn't you know? Spartans never die." - Kurt-051's last words.

Agreed 110%. ODST is still loads of fun.

Nice thread but I think you could've developed what you were saying even further.

Lots of people say that odst Is not a good game, even the forks in gamestattion, but for me I find it more challenging then other halo games, as your not a super soilder, and had to change the way I play duck cover and shoot. very good for co op, I think that's why many don't like odst becasuse your not the MC

Nut Up or Shut Up!

I agree 100%.

Halo: ODST is THE BEST Halo ever made. After ODST came out I was expecting so much more from Halo: Reach, but after playing Reach I gotta say that ODST is still much better. Too bad Bungie is finished with the Halo franchise but Halo will live on thanks to 343 industries...

Hopefully Halo 4 will be more like Reach and ODST combined. Now that would be really cool.

Actually, I find that I'm more invincible without pants, which is why I am not wearing any at the moment.

Absolutely true. I played through on legendary last night with a friend and had a blast, the story is incredible.

I've been saying this since ODST was released. It's my favorite and is often brushed aside because people are more concerned with multiplayer.
ODST shows the desperation of humanity fighting to save our home planet from invasion. No cyborg super soldiers to save us, it's just the handful of men and women willing to die fighting rather than hide. It also feels like the odds are really stacked against you this time. Playing as the MC I never felt like something might be too much of a challenge. But ODST drops you in the boots of a guy who's wearing a Kevlar jacket and carrying a sidearm and he's the best we've got to offer against the Covenant forces.
Speaks to the human spirit; outgunned, but never outmatched. I like that.

I still think firefight alone was worth the 60 dollars, its just people only played it for the 200,000 achievements. I usually pop the game in every other week just mess around in firefight or campaign, I mean the game still looks great and plays well.

I still haven't finished the ODST campaign, which I see as a real shame. I'm waiting for my friend to get it so we can do it co-op.
I see it as a really good idea, in essence, and I just really like the game and just the whole thing generally, it just seems like a terrible shame that people don't like it. I also think the characters are really good too.

I would have liked to, but I find that once I begin to elaborate on things such a music or gameplay, I ramble. The viewer may grow tiresome of reading if there is a wall of text. That is why I kept the post short and simple.

Paranoia is a very comforting state of mind. If you think they're out to get you, it means you think you matter.

I have to agree. ODST is a great game. It hits everything just right. Mood, lighting, that sinking feeling when a bunch of brutes start shooting at you. As MC, you just sigh and kill them, as the rookie, it's an actual test of skill. Love me some ODST.

We are all dying.

Some faster than others..........

ODST is DEFINITELY my favorite Halo.

  • 07.15.2011 6:40 AM PST

recently I played the campaign on legendary with some friends just to find the audio logs and they tell a very dark story of the moment covenant set foot on earth and to understand it better you must remember that when regret flees earth in halo 2 midcampaign is the same moment the ODSTs are dropping in the city.

  • 07.15.2011 6:51 AM PST

Viva La Revolution!
Social Infection ftw

ODST had my favorite campaign. The story had so much more emotion and character to it, as opposed to the other games where you just commit Xenocide and save humanity. The way the story was presented and how we had to solve the mystery was great too.

This game is really underrated. I thought it was well worth the $60, considering I didn't buy a single map pack.

Remember Reach, remember Noble, remember all who gave there lives for the UNSC, for humanity!
I am of Irish Celtic descent, Bannons were Celtic warriors and i plan on keeping with that. Éire go braugh! Ireland forever! I support the Old IRA Irish Republican Army!
We drop feet first into hell with our weapons held high and looking certain destruction in the eye for the horsemen will guide us.

i agree with all of this. i wish people would see how good of a game this really is.

The wolf that doesn't howl will never find his pack.

I love ODST, the gameplay, the music, the story. It's easily my favourite Halo game for Story :)

We Are The Meta.

ODST is one I thoroughly enjoy over and over again.

I find it horrible that most people don't consider it a true Halo game, worse even a Bungie game. I loved the detail and faith to the Halo universe put into ODST.

I even love the fact there's In Amber Clad chasing after Regret's Carrier, Sadie's story and even glassing 1st hand.

The only two problems for ODST in my mind were: a, no multiplayer matchmaking for ODST and b, the should have been more levels to the campaign. Despite these, I still enjoy ODST and hope for a sequel/prequel/spinoff as a future game between the new trilogy of Halo games.

Just wish people appreciated it more. Hell, even my bro, a devoted Halo fan. Doesn't really class it in the same league as Halo.
