I just wanted to clear a few things up...I LOVE Halo. Those of you accusing me of hating Reach couldn't be more wrong. Like I said, I consume everything Halo: games, books, comics (that I know about); I even bought Dead or Alive 4 just because they had a SPARTAN character. I still play Reach every day (and I don't even have XBL, so I've played the campaign and forged many, many times).
And I just used Reach as an example because I felt that a purely tactical mission structure was similar to CoD. CoD games don't have an actual plot most of the time, so they rely on the military aspect much more than character development, plot twists, etc.
I'll give you an example of a slight campaign variation I'm talking about, and yes, it's EXACTLY like a mission from CoD (The mission played for the MW2 demo at E3). On Nightfall, Noble 6 could sneak around the bad guys while Jun is at a higher vantage point covering you when needed. Then he could actually make use of his special sniper rounds he talks about in the intro cinematic of Nightfall, and he'd be way more useful than he normally is in that mission. It would enable the player to actually sneak around and not have to worry about Jun taking the first shot and alerting everything to your presence.
Or take Tip of the Spear: if it had actually been a huge battle like it was supposed to be, there could be a part where the player comes across a Covenant tank formation and suddenly you're firing artillery from a different character's perspective to save Noble team.
I also feel that these variations would make the NPCs more significant. When they just follow you around and die it doesn't make me believe that they're part of a military unit. I mean, the rebels in Nightfall had the same AI as the Marines (or Army or ODSTs, etc.). That just doesn't seem right.
Again, don't mistake my posts as hating on Reach, or any other Halo game. I love them all. And I enjoy the campaign gameplay of CoD.
And sorry about posting in the wrong forum, I'm still a rookie member.
