Subject: The direction halo is going.

Now, I know we all have differing viewpoints, but this paragraph I found today(credit goes to Pvt Caboose for linking it) http://fudzilla.com/games/item/23411-microsoft-admits-losing-i ts-way-with-halo

After looking up the guy, it seems this isn't a one-time fake article, this guy honestly views halo as being master chief centered and that's what fans care and love for. "An overpowering cool character who's the John Wayne of the halo universe"(Don't get the reference, could somebody explain the John wayne bit?)

I mean, I'm all for expanding the Chief's character and finishing his story, but treating the heroes of Reach and ODST as "random side characters who don't matter."(least that's how it sounded to me) Just makes me think the likelyhood of halo doing downhill quickly skyrocketed...

Exact science, is not an exact science.

"John Wayne" now theres a relevant cultural reference, Facepalm!!

Around 4:40 in that interview he makes the comment.

"343 is taking halo back to it's core." directly afterwards.

Halo 4 could potentially be hideous, I can smell 3D on the horizon, and it aint a good smell!!

  • 07.13.2011 5:35 AM PDT

Yea, people may not know it, but MC plays a big part in Halo. i have to admit that I mostly enjoyed Halo because I felt like I was playing a hero who had great importance in a war.

  • 07.13.2011 5:36 AM PDT

It has great potential, but great risk. If they focus the story on Chief and Cortana being alone in a completely unknown enviroment and really develop their characters, It'll be great IMO.

However, if they have the UNSC/human forces there for some random reason and it once again boils down to chief being the robot who gets ordered everywhere it'll crash and burn. Of course, right now it's just "need more information" stage.

*Note: If they have UNSC forces being from... let's say the Spirit of Fire or another ship which blind-jumped... that'd be okay. But if they are there and it's "Oh, ONI knows about this place/has known since the human covenant war!" It's ruined already.*

Edit: Not trying to discredit/lessen the Chief with this, but the things I read/heard seems to point at they are unwilling to even bring in new heroes or major characters it seems. I'm perfectly fine with finishing chief's story. But Halo universe with crash, burn, and be forgotten if all they focus on is the chief and nothing else.

Heh true. I wonder what the people who were going "343/Microsoft is going to milk halo dry and ruin it!" have to say about that article.

He seems like an alright chap. I can see what he's saying, partly. People have identified 'Chief with Halo. He's the face of the franchise. So when people who only looked it over casually pick up Reach or ODST and realize 'Chief is absent from the experience, they're probably a bit, like, 'huh?'. Fans who play Halo understand, but I think a lot of them see projects like ODST as more of a break from the main man of the series. A very fun, and unique, break; but a break nonetheless.

I don't think this means that they'll never leave John alone, though. I think they just want to get back to their icon. People have been missing him, and asking to be able to play as him once again. I can imagine that 343 will definitely have many ideas that don't focus solely on Master Chief.

I'm confident about Halo 4. 343 come across as very clued up, and that ominous/sinister spin on the iconic Halo theme leaves a good impression about the direction the trilogy is heading.

Agreed. Also, people who played Halo around the 360 era don't know what it's like to journey with the Chief 'cause for the 360 the Halo games are: Halo 3, ODST and Reach. If you played Halo on the original xbox, you're gonna understand why people miss him. People say it's the Halo story that their interested in, but personally what I'm interested to see is how MC overcomes these great challenges in a universe filled with mystery.

When has that ever been said? Just because there's Kinect involved, doesn't mean it's focused on Kinect. Take a look at Ghost Recon. The Kinect features are REALLY cool, but they don't play a major part in the gameplay. Most anti-kinect people I see never even gave the damn thing a chance.

Not gonna lie, I thought ME3 looked pretty awesome with the Kinect voice commands.

Kinect = geh, Halo w/Kinect = -blam!- Halo.

Some of the things Microsoft did at Kinect this year really impressed me.

The Ghost Recon thing with taking apart your weapon, and then using Kinect to practice firing the rifle at the Range was really awesome.

The Mass Effect voice features looked really good as well.

Kinect can be in third party titles as optional features. They're things that can only add to the experience. If you don't like Kinect, that's fine, don't use these features, but people who complain simply because there's a Kinect feature in the game are the worst.

Is this your reaction because you can't buy one and try it out? children normally whine about something because they want it and can't have it.

I bought my kinect when it first came out and got bored with the games so it just sits there. I was gonna sell it during E3 until my friends started texting me news and i cleaned it up and put it on a shelf.

  • 07.13.2011 6:37 AM PDT

Why would Kinect be bad?

  • 07.13.2011 6:38 AM PDT

I hated that you say one thing, in Mass Effect 3, then Shepard says something completely different. Very weird, and breaks the immersion. I'd rather just use a button. Much quicker, as well.

And Forza 4. "Looking into the corners", which I do alot, will be helped out by Kinect.
Pity I don't have it. XD

I did start playing halo from CE (back before halo 2 came out, not when it was released though), and I'm not exactly seeing why he absolutely has to return.

Anyway, I have two things I want from halo 4.

A: Master Chief and cortana ALONE. develop their characters massively by having them be the only two humans(aka UNSC, obviously cortana is an AI). Maybe a friendly forerunner AI or something, but for the most part alone and we see Master Chief making choices and decisions, and not being a robot who nods at sergeants (who he outranks lol) and follows every word they say
B: Unknown planet. As in, Even Cortana doesn't know -blam!- about the place, and any map you have is sketchy. You have to explore to figure out how to get places and it's not easy. You are literally finding out what the planet is. There is nobody telling you everything about the planet, or where things are (Something I see not happening if they do a UNSC presence/ONI knowing about the planet for some random reason.)

Aka, master chief and cortana are alone and don't know a thing about where they are other then it's forerunner.

I honestly hope chief gets killed at the end of the trilogy so the only games that can be done with him are prequels and 343 can do something else.

Like seriously do they understand how many games could be based around an arbiter/spec ops elite? The you have Spartan IIIs, ODSTs, The rainforest wars/WWIII (call of duty/battlefield).

There is alot that can be done through games if they just man up and dump the chief

Exactly, isn't that why ODST and Reach came around? Bungie wanted to make halo not be only about/revolving around the chief.
