I would also put the one word phrase of "Adapt" into your argument also. That word is thrown around a lot in the Reach forum.

It's not your job to read threads, nor is it a matter of money. If you're not interested in the topic at hand that you don't even read the OP, even if it's a 'wall', why bother posting at all? You clearly don't have anything worth posting.

OP, I agree, but apparently they're already bannable offenses. Hm...
Yes, it's not, but it's the OP's job to make threads readable and not just give you a huge -blam!- wall that will take a good ten minutes to get through without any form of summary.

In fact, you could argue that having a giant -blam!- wall without any form of summary is about as much spam as the "tl;dr" itself, esspecially because most of the time walls like that mainly consist of random tangents and most of what is being said could just be shrunken down to one sentance.

tl;dr?
Not having a tl;dr is as much spam as posting tl;dr is.

See that? My two paragraph point was summed up in one sentance.

Now how hard was that?
Well not hard at all, took five seconds and was easy because I know what my point is!

I'm not saying it's not spam mind you, just that threads that get tl;dr's could use one and that the OP refusing to give one is about as much spam as the tl;dr itself, what you spend hours typing up a thread but you can't make a summary or at least a quick bullet point section at the end outlining your points?

How lazy are you.

And you see the tl;dr is even applicable to this post itself, you see most of this is just me reiterating the same point, something that unless someone didn't fully understand it the first time, or even just by reading the tl;dr, wouldn't need to read.

This is my honest opinion, creating threads about things that should be added to the list of "bannable offenses" should be a "bannable offense." Let the moderation team do their job along with the webteam that sees fit to give them guidance. I'm pretty damn sure that they know the difference between spamming and posting within reason.

To be honest it looks like this thread is just you trying to justify that threads don't need a tl;dr and the people in it should just have to read the wall of crap put up by the OP.

Which isn't true, you know how games are pitched to publishers? A sorta, game plan, is sent over. You know what happens to long game plans without a bullet point summary/tl;dr?
They get thrown in the trash.

You are assuming that most people read the threads though, they mostly just read the title then make a reply. I think having a tl;dr section in your thread does help, but not if people are only going to read a title. I guess to counter that the OP should make their title the tl;dr section?

I haven't done that to a single thread tha was a reasonable length or had a tl;dr and I'm rather sure that the vast majority of Bungie.net operates in the same fashion.

And even if what I just typed isn't true, why should people bother writing a OP at all then? I mean if people are just going to read the title and not even look for a tl;dr, it sounds like long thought out OPs are just people wasting their time and complaining about spam related to that fact is a little silly.

If people are just going to read the title, why make a OP at all?

I was banned a long time ago for saying "TL;DR." I brought it to a Forum Ninja's attention, one who I was friendly with at the time, and he informed me that "TL;DR" is a red flag for moderators.

Although if that is so, why is it that I have cataloged numerous cases of unbanned "TL;DR" instances? It is apparent that Bungie.net's staff feels that this is no longer a ban worthy offense, otherwise, I am certain that something would happen. Or are they slacking? Perhaps I speak blasphemy, but we must keep an open mind when analyzing these sorts of things.

I think that the main problem that TL;DR promotes is that it does not contribute to the conversation. This in itself may be lookod upon as spam, likewise ban worthy, or am I mistaken?

I think Umad should be a permaban'd offense. For some reason it just irritates me beyond belief. I feel the type of people who say it not in jest are feigning so much arrogance it makes me sick. Also, I'm fairly certain those same people wouldn't say that in real life. But alas, this is the internet and it probably shouldn't make me mad should it?

Or, much more likely, maybe the ninjas just don't see every single one and people aren't bothered enough by it to report it.

That may very well be the case, however, when I brought my cataloged infractions to the ninjas, nothing happened. I went all the way up to the overlord, in fact. Nothing happened.

Perhaps you are right in that people are no longer bothered by it, but it is technically against the rules, is it not?

That's just not generally how you do things here. If you're bothered by a post, report it. If enough people report it for it to hit their queue of reported posts, they'll check it out. If it's something against the rules, they'll act appropriately.

Sending a presonal list of "catalogued infractions" is a bit over the top.

Perhaps you are fine with it. I am merely expressing my concerns that the brutal profanity and digression of the community seems to be going unscathed. My private messages however, are my own. I am well within my boundaries to PM anyone on anything I wish.

Also, people these days are more desensitized to what is right and what is wrong. That assertion in itself is wrong, and should not even exist in a good world. Our jobs as loyal community members must be to report these instances, whether that means hitting the report button, or sending messages. The point is, things must be done.

If things are supposed to be the way they are now, as you suggested, I am not satisfied. Nor should anyone else here who notices these problems.

I'm not telling you to be satisfied with stuff you don't like or that you should or shouldn't PM anyone whatever you want to.

I'm saying that if you think you have a "duty" to do anything and are actually taking the time to "catalog" every little thing anyone ever does wrong, you've probably either got a vendetta or an obsession going on, and it wouldn't hurt you to take a videogame developer's website a little less seriously.

More of an obsession. Upholding the law is a primary duty of mine outside of the virtual world. It is a hard, if not impossible thing to get rid of.

Thanks for the argument, by the way. I have gained invaluable insight into myself as well as the community as a whole.

All in all, my belief is in agreement with the OP.

I think people that create posts and threads should be permaban'd because it irritates me.
