Good morning everyone,

Forgive me for shining a new face into your optical receptors, but I have an inquiry for you people of the ODST forum. Preferably, I seek the responses of those familiar with the cannon and have played Halo 2.

Why are there no Elites in the ODST campaign? As you should know, the game takes place just after the Master Chief eaves Mombasa with the Covenant Super carrier. I don't recall there being any Brutes on Earth during Halo 2, yet during ODST, which is supposed to be a congruent time, seems to have almost the opposite: No Elites and a barrel of Brutes. Why is it like this? What is the reason, if any, behind this?

My initial speculation was that it had something to do with the Civil War, however that still fails to explain all of the Brutes in the opening mission. In fact, I believe that Bungie even tried to explain it prior to the release as "Truth's Wrath," or something along those lines. So there are no Elites loft over in Old Mombasa? (As New Mombasa was destroyed.) If this is so, how could the Brutes have arrived so quickly, or even learn about Regret's failure with such haste? Please, enlighten me.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to this. I must ask for no trolling, flaming, or any "bad news" in this thread, but I'm sure I don't have to worry about that.

Have a good one.

They were killed by the Brutes as ordered by Truth.

Prepare To Drop!

It actually is due to the covenant civil war.

The prophet of truth ordered a change of the guard in Halo 2 to the brutes. Some of the books elaborate on this, in that not only did he want to remove the Elites from power as the Brutes were easier for him to control, he wanted to be rid of them.

Halo 2 is probably still the best in game explanation where its hinted at that Truth ordered the deaths of the Elites. The books make it implicit that he wanted them removed, especially from Earth as he didn't want to chance them gaining access to the ark,

There is no problem that cannot be solved with a shotgun, or a flamethrower, or a spartan laser, or a... you know what? Never mind.

The prophets staged a coup to get rid of Elites. Brutes took over. Brutes killed all the elites they could. Elites joined humanity. Humans and elites killed brutes. We killed the flood. We killed the ark. We won. Nuff said.

There are no elites because the campaign is based in New Mombasa and the elites only sent small strike teams into the city, hence why they are dead, the elites concentrate their forces where the larger battles take place thats why they are in Halo 3 so much as the large and most impotant fights are where the chief is.

You guys might hate me for this, but I answered my own question. None of you guys were completely accurate in your assertions, believe it or not. How did I arise at this conclusion? Replay the H2 mission "Regret" and I believe that you too, can find the answer.

Spoiler

Yes, it just so happened to be that Truth's fleet arrived just before Regret's demise during the cut scene, respectfully. Thus, it was the changing of the guard primarily. You were all close. Thank you for the time you offered me in your responses.
