It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

What do you mean exactly?

Many groups lock up so all members must be approved. This is to stop spammers and new accounts from getting in.

I know some groups have requirments for members, like one only lets 1 year or over members in.

The Mods have there own group, and thats for them to talk. Its not that they hate you, its just they need to talk.

But if so one is being a dick about it, dont let it bother you.

A few people are elitist. It's a fact of life unfortunately but it boils down to this; It's their chapter/group and they can do anything they like with it as long as it’s within the rules/conditions of agreement.

I love how some people consider themselves to be so important they they lock their groups up so that only VIPs can get in.

It's double funny when they link to the group in their sig. It's like, "Hey, come look at my group that you are not allowed in." It must make them feel so good when someone attempts to join and they get to reject the person.

Does this have something to do with membership denied? I wouldn't worry, those guys are mostly elitist bastards. The group gives them something to inflate their ego.

It's about being able to have your own place for you and your friends. Some people just want to be here and hang out in a chilled out atmosphere with the people they feel comfortable with. Nothing wrong with that, unless you start bragging about it. Nobody likes a bragger.

People who link their invite only group may have some content that is open for everybody, and why shouldn't they have a link to it in their sig?

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Well, put it this way; what if you had a group that was open and 20 morons came in and spammed the -blam!- out of the place? I bet you'd probably close your group after having to clean that up. Requiring membership approval for groups isn't meant to be a tool for elitists to use against average joes. It's meant as a means to keep spammers from destroying a group.

I usually keep mine open, share the love as it will. I think invitation groups can be a hassle and not really worth it. I am not saying this of all groups, but from my experences, thats what i get from them.

As for them getting spammed. Get a spam buster, or as i like to call it, a ninja costume and a beer.

Hence "Drunk Ninja" <<<<I think Johnrap will be the only one here who gets that bad joke.

Ah well.

But maybe this goes back to the other idea that it is considered inappropriate to invite someone via PM. Which I think is ridiculous. But if someone wants a selective group, but can't PM people, I guess he puts it in his sig and hopes the right people see it.

It's fine if they say your name in the invite and you know them somewhat. I'm just against the whole copy&paste genre of invites that people will send out to every name they see on the forums. They could at least mention my name if they bother to send one.

That doesn't stop it from being used that way sometimes.

Seventh Column Contests

I dont mind those people really. They can do whatever they like in their own group as long as it doesn't bypass the code and conduct. Sometimes people just dont want members who spam and flame in their group so they do invites only. It's a good way to gain good, quality members.

Mine is invite only so I known who the new member is and I can send them a greeting. If it was open I know I would miss it. The only other group I'm in that's invite only is the Cavegirls for obvious reasons.
