What's wrong with this OP?

Or this one?

Reporting abuse is on the rise and it's irritating to topic posters (especially those of large threads) who are no longer able to edit their thread because they are collapsed.

If the button is to stay, posters should be required to give a reason for why they are reporting.

It's the high population of users in that specific forum, along with their attitudes.

The report feature needs to be tweaked for the problem, not heavily modified or completely done with.

They were reported while the forums went read only because people were freaking out. If you were here when that happened you would have seen that a lot of the threads on the front page had a reported OP.

Well it's not perfect, but it shouldn't be removed altogether. They can tweak it a bit, sure, but not remove it.

That may be the case for those specific topics, but the situation still occurs on a frequent basis.

not in my personal experience

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

The report button does more good than bad though. If the posts weren't bad they won't be banned.

Goat's topics get heavily reported after the third page. In the Reach forum, anything that is controversial in any way is reported by a boatload of ignorant users.

Go make a topic that states almost perfect logic about how (i.e.) Armor Lock should have never happened. You'll be censored in no time.

You were trolling.

Reporting abuse is, itself, supposed to be moderated. But hey, let's take everyone's kitchen knives away because you find the risk of someone committing murder with one to be more important than everyone else being able to cut their food. That's completely rational.

  • 07.14.2011 7:21 PM PDT

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

Yes let's remove the Report button altogether because you don't like what you're seeing. Posts get reported all of the time, there's no sure way to tell if someone is abusing the system. If someone doesn't like a post, their typically going to report it. Some people just report for the heck of it and there's nothing we can do about it. Please stop worrying so much; you know nothing is going to change especially when you string together ridiculous demands such as this.

  • 07.14.2011 7:21 PM PDT

The report button needs to be used more responsibly, not removed. The abuse of it isn't really seen in any of the other forums.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

Exactly, it all comes down to a moderators judgement on the post. You don't need to remove a feature like that which benefits users, even if it's just giving a user the satisfaction of reporting a post because they think they're helping.

Inheritor #156 :p

2nd thread didn't have to do solely with reach, yeah reach was mentioned in it but it was talking about all halo games and should have been in another forum.

1st thread I don't see nothing wrong.

  • 07.14.2011 7:24 PM PDT

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

They definitely need to tweak the report button but disable it altogether, that's a horrible idea. I do agree, however, that you should have to give a reason for reporting the topic.

Says the person who makes posts in which the sole content is, 'You suck at Halo, stop playing video games, you are a terrible person, you are an idiot.'

You REALLY like saying things when they suit you then forgetting them, don't you? You'd be great at Doublethink in 1984. The perfect Inner Party Member.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

Guys, some people make groups just to spam posts. I think we should disable groups for that sole reason.

You know what, guys...there are too many top forum topics. Lets remove the whole top forum topics section, and disable stickied topics while we're at it, too.

You know, people use rockets all of the time in Halo Reach. Lets shut down Xbox Live?

They have been reported by monkeys; not reprimanded by the gorillas.

The button does not have to be nullified, respectively.

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear.

I agree that there is a problem, but I do not agree with your solution.

I think that abuse of the report button should be punished (If it isn't already). Perhaps users who abuse the report button would lose it for a short time. Maybe not...

This.

And from what I can see, it isn't already.

I think most people tend to think that the word 'report' means ' I don't agree with this'.

Though technically, the second thread had little to do with Reach.

I feel like you complain about your threads being reported quite a bit. Did you ever think that the way you post deserves being reported?

The threads mentioned in the OP are not Goat's threads.
