Report system is fine.

You are going to get reported when you make super controversial threads in hopes of getting attention, you are just going to have to deal with it.

The report feature is pretty important.
Without it the moderation would be done on a completely arbitrary level, depending on whichever Ninja happened to be in that forum at the time, and let's be honest - no one is going to open every single thread to check it's good, the report queue is required to draw attention to the main problems.

It might be abused, but I believe that there is a penalty for the overuse and misuse of it, and while you might get 'fine' threads getting collapsed, I find most people do actually open it up to see what the fuss is about.

If you were really determined then I guess the collapsing feature could go, although I think it would cause more trouble than good in legitimate situations.

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

The thing is, the OP wasn't banned. If/when a moderator sees it, they'll take the report collapse off.

One of my ideas.

Feline Doom : Steampunk mecha anime with kitties.

It's hard for mods to see spam posts on some threads. B.NET is big. Mods can't see those spam threads at times, so if people think that a breaking the rules, they can hit the report button. However, people abuse this. How about a like/dislike button as well as a report button so that people can see other people's opinions on the subject. I think that alot of posts are useless on the Flood, though. Same with the Reach forum.

Edit: Help me with the grammar problems; I'm about to pass out.

I miss Halo. Maybe Halo 4 will change that.

Edit: Lol nope

Report Button doesn't need disabling but mods need the option to unhide a thread if it was reported when no rules where broken.

People misuse the report button every now and then. It happens. The report tool does way more good than bad, so i doubt it will be going anywhere. In the end, it's up to the ninjas and no one else. We're the final say when it comes to report. I would hope, and I'm pretty darn sure, that none of us would do anything to those reported threads.

wrong thread.... sorry.

All I have to say is, why hasn't the OP in the first linked thread been uncollapsed yet?

Whoo.

I say the OP get permabanned on the spot for this case of off-topic, double posting, bumping spam!

You notice how overkill that is? Permabanning someone over a minor infraction?

You notice how getting rid of the report feature because of some misuse of the feature is pretty much the same level of overkill? And how I overused the word "of" in that question?
(That "of" remark was besides the point I just wanted to get it out the way)

I mean it's basically the same thing, sure the report button has been abused and will get abused in the future but that hardly means it should be removed or even altered to make it take more out of a person's time to use, the same way you shouldn't be perma'd or even banned for that post I linked.

I mean sure a mod COULD ban you for your post, but I think that would be a little too strict moderation, warning at best should go for a post like that.

Which leads me to my next point, I say that Achronos makes it so a list of reporters is compiled and in a scenario where report abuse took place *thinks of that thread where WAY reported pretty much everyone in it*, then a moderator could warn everyone that reported the thread at a click of a button.

I know being warned for misusing the report button would definately make my use of it far less ... frivolous, shall we say.

If the button is to stay, posters should be required to give a reason for why they are reporting.

I was really about to make a thread recommending this idea. It's great and could have moderators handle the situation easier, IMO.

(But without people making a paragraph of what's wrong with the particular thread.)

We want to encourage people on reporting with a simple click process. Mods can decide the problem with a post once it's in the report queue, if there is a problem with it.

Just on that subject (since it gets brought up sometimes), what if upon clicking the report button, a slightly more detailed popup came up giving you some predefined options for reporting a post, and a separate option for optionally entering your own reason. That is, you could still just hit "OK" to report a post, but you could also provide a reason if you wanted to.

Most proper report systems are already set up that way...

Sweeping a feature away because a couple of harmless threads were reported isn't smart. The positives outweigh the negatives.

Honestly though, how many reports do you think will consist of things like "OP is retarded!", "OP is Trolling!", "lolol"? For some reason, I see a little bit of that mixed in there...

It could work, sorta like the way the mods ban people, but only if the person could just hit "ok" without detailing reason.

Giving the option too is all well and good but some people are too lazy to even scroll down and pick the reason they're reporting the thread, as long as the default is "Reason not given" or something it's ok, you know so people don't actually have to do it but it can be right there if they want to.

I occasionally actually want to detail my reports.

It could also be made if enough people vote under the same infraction then the amount of votes to collapse a post could be lower.
(E.g. It takes five reasonless votes to down a person but it only takes three votes that detail the same reason, which could be spam, flaming, etc.)

Plus you could have a "comment section" that the mods could look over for reports that have a written reason rather than a predefined one, and the mod could get a better understanding as to spesifically why a post was reported, and if report abuse was taking place (AKA someone getting reported because "they're dumb" or something) then action could be taken towards that member, maybe having a report history ..

This would only work if it was entirely optional though, some people don't want to fill out a form just to report someone, hell most people don't want to do as much as we have to do now.

It's actually more like a teenager ... literally.

I'm pretty sure that this site is more than twelve years old.

Commando ain't strong enough, and boxers don't got enough fight in 'em. Briefs're just too short, and thongs're fer the ladies.

I stuff it into a gun holster. It barely fits.

Yep. Derpheads that throw stuff like that in there could just be 3-day'd, or at least lose their ability to report for a week.

Relax. I'd rather not piss this thing off.

-Master Chief

The Op of that first thread had nothing at all violating the code of conduct why not go back to the old way of doing things letting the ninja's either ban or hide it if its breaking the code of conduct.

Obvious exaggeration. For example, the name of this thread's an obvious exaggeration that went clean over your head.

The name of the thread ISN'T a exaggeration that is in fact what Goat believes.

And out of the list of people you compiled only two of them used a hyperbole, one person being me who admitted it in the same post where a hypebole was used, which is the beating children post. And the hyperbole part of that post isn't even relevant to my arguement, it could be replaced with a non-hyperbole-esque example and would still hold the same point.

The only reason there is a hyperbole there at all is because it was the only example that came to mind, which was explained within the post as well as the fact that it is indeed a hyperbole.

The rest of my comments were a analogy that fits in well within the OPs logic, the only other person that did a hyperbole is Count Blinkula and even that was just in one post.

Also, if the OP is in fact using a hyperbole, why wasn't he on your list?
Would that negate your BS points supporting him?
