Commando ain't strong enough, and boxers don't got enough fight in 'em. Briefs're just too short, and thongs're fer the ladies.

I stuff it into a gun holster. It barely fits.

The name of the thread ISN'T a exaggeration that is in fact what Goat believes.
Really, now? That a fact?

Report Button needs to be disabled

If the button is to stay, posters should be required to give a reason for why they are reporting.

Hyperbole meant to make my point look even more reasonable than it is.

My point, offered as the only sane alternative to the hyperbole.

Do ya see what's going on now, MURDUR?

Oh I do, you're using "These guys are using Hyperboles!" as a BS point to further your arguement in support of the OP.

As I've pointed out that the OP wasn't in fact using a hyperbole and that if you truly believed he was why wasn't he on your list?

It wasn't clear he was using a hyperbole, or that he even knew what one was, while the only two hyperboles in this thread are either blatant or admitted to within the same post.

The fact is, you're trying to invalidate people's points by attacking the way they're representing them rather then their merits, which includes even people who don't fall under the critera you specified, so you know, blatant BS, and then you're supporting the OP who you seem to believe was conducting himself in the exact same manner you're belittling us for evidently "using".

The OP was using a hyperbole. And the list was a list of people who didn't get it.

Holy hell, dude. I think ya need some sleep.

Oh ... that is what you're saying, well what I don't have my thinking cap on when I go to Bungie.net, it's not like I ever need to think when conversing with the riff raff over here.

Still you can't tell if he's using a hyperbole or not.
"If the button is to stay,"

Implies that he believes the button should be removed, rather than thinking that the point is ridiculous and saying something like:
"Ok maybe not getting rid of the button,"

Which would convey that he didn't believe the button should really be removed.

Either way it's Goat, he says stuff like that and means it.
It's not my fault that Goat is usually that ridiculous/silly.

I think most people tend to think that the word 'report' means ' I don't agree with this'.

There should be a drop menu on what you are reporting...

The report button does more good than bad though. If the posts weren't bad they won't be banned.

We want to encourage people on reporting with a simple click process. Mods can decide the problem with a post once it's in the report queue, if there is a problem with it.
Just on that subject (since it gets brought up sometimes), what if upon clicking the report button, a slightly more detailed popup came up giving you some predefined options for reporting a post, and a separate option for optionally entering your own reason. That is, you could still just hit "OK" to report a post, but you could also provide a reason if you wanted to.
daz, how could this information be presented to you as a moderator in a way that makes it relevant. Currently, if the post is in the report queue and you check it out, you can take action as appropriate if it breaks any rules. If we start providing reasons, you'll see that, for instance, 30% said it was spam, 40% said it was trolling, and 30% said it was flaming, and you're still going to look at the post and see if it breaks any rules. And if 100% said it was flaming and you read it and think, "it's not really flaming, but it is spam," it's not like you're going to let it go because the rule they broke wasn't the one people reported it for, right? Basically, I don't see how that would become something that actually makes a difference other than providing a bit of an illusion of more control for us.

I'm going to go with a big fat no on this one. If someone is going to abuse the report button, the moderators have a solution for that.

I guess the report button is effective...but it certainly isn't foolproof, if you catch my drift.

I feel people are still used to the old rules. I think under the old rules Viper's thread would have been locked due to the potential for flaming. I do think that the "reason" option added to the report button is a good idea. Instead of typing a reason though there should be a poll like window that pops up to give a generic reason.

What's wrong with this OP?

Or this one?

The first could be construed as violating the "play nice" rule since the OP starts the thread with a condescending tone.

The second doesn't belong in the Reach forum since it's about multiple Halo games.

If the button is to stay, posters should be required to give a reason for why they are reporting.
If you think this would solve anything at all, you need to just stop posting ideas. How the F would this work? What, there's a text box for me to enter a reason and unless I populate that text box with something, I can't report?

Do you have any idea how many posts will be reported for the reason "asdf"?

Abusing the report function should result in a ban. It's getting annoying when people in the Halo Reach forum report people that criticize the game. If somebody reports a post that did not break any rules, they should receive a ban.

I am a Floodian

#1 It was posted in the Reach forum
#2 See #1

All kidding aside, I would be more worried, but a reported thread doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be banned. As shown by your examples, the moderators know what's allowed at what isn't.

I'm glad reporting is on the rise, and hope that people start reporting the right things. That can only be a positive.

I'm pretty sure abusing the report button can result in some sort of discliplinary action. I seem to vaguely remember an issue about that not too terribly long ago, but I'm a little fuzzy on the details.

i think people need to grow up and stop pressing the report button everytime they get mad at someone over something stupid, such as an OPINION

but having to state a reason would help

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

So, the only time people can use the report button, they have to give a reason before sending it?

I agree.

No no no, we already said no to this. It would be OK if it wasn't required, however even then I think it's still rather pointless.

L00 is correct, report abuse can result in a ban, and I can copy my most recent moderation history if anyone requires proof. :-)

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

NO, we need the report button.

Without it, ninjas would have a harder time doing their job.

Honestly though, how many reports do you think will consist of things like "OP is retarded!", "OP is Trolling!", "lolol"? For some reason, I see a little bit of that mixed in there...
So?
Hey,, the OP won't get banned. The ones reporting him will.
