Subject: Is Spartan training potentially lethal?

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.

I'm watching some videos of Navy Seal candidate training. The training (that is shown) is exhausting these built, in shape grown men.
I'm assuming that Spartan training is possibly just like this, but possibly harder.
Spartan children are 7 years old and train for 7 years. Is it even healthy for a 7 year old to do such intense training?
ODST training must be nearly twice as tough than Navy Seal training. So Spartan training must be even tougher.

Do you seriously need to ask that question? Are you THAT stupid? C'mon.

wat.

I'm guessing that Navy Seals and ODSTs go through about the same amount of training, and keep in mind that the Spartans have the best genes possible, they can endure a lot.

Re-read title. Potentially? Uh, yeah.

I understand the genes play a vital role. But still, we're talking about 6-7 year olds doing Navy Seal equivalent training. Didn't the first training involve all the Spartans doing pushups and some of the kids were even throwing up from the intensity?

Did you even read the damn books? and you wonder why you get flamed for asking stupid questions, this is almost as dumb as the time you stated MC was infected by the gravemind, almost.

Of course it's potentially lethal. That's the whole point of training in general. To strengthen those with potential while simultaneously weeding out the weak should there be any. Anyone that pushes themselves past their limit, but continues to go on will drop out or outright die from exhaustion.

Do you honestly believe that sending kids to fend for themselves in the woods, or forcing them to sustain themselves by raiding military bases whose occupants are more than willing to beat them to more than a pulp to be potentially non-lethal?

actually, i haven't read his post, but that theory does have something to it. in one of the books doesn't a flood spore get through johns armor before Cortana kills it with a electric shock from a shield overcharge or something like that? and the gravemind CAN talk to the chief, as he can to the infected to control them. I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be true.

um if the chief was infected then he would be controlled and the mind wouldn't have con through all the trouble of luring to high charity with the means of infecting him

jenkins was also "infected" but still retained control of himself. (all though i'm not sure how much, i haven't read the book, i'm going by hear-say and wiki entries here.)

Difference being Jenkisn WAS infected while Chief wasn't. Johnson had Flood DNA in him, shouldn't the Gravemind have control over him? No, because the Flood did not have control over him, just like they didn't for Chief.

As for your question OP, yes. It was designed to be potentially lethal. They wanted to find out who were the best of the group.

because the flood had just woke up after 100,000 years and was still pretty weak not to mention in feral stage

right, this has gotten a tad off topic. it's impossible to confirm a theory like that untill bungie (or 343) confirms it themselves.

Yes, the spartan training would easily kill any normal person, but they survived because of their "supergenes" as i call them.

edit:
"because the flood had just woke up after 100,000 years and was still pretty weak not to mention in feral stage"

i don't know when the chief got attacked by that spore, so i can't make any comment there.

Jenkins was an exception. It was specifically mentioned that out of all the infection forms that could've latched onto Jenkins, he got "lucky" and got stuck with one that was too weak to completely control him.

Even then he was still infected in every sense of the word. His body was subjected to the Flood overwriting his DNA and he became a fully fledged combat form. Mutated arm and all.
