I don't know why it says my video card is a 256MB ATI Radeon 9600XT, but oh well.(it a 128MB Radeon 9600XT)

Here it is:

You know I really think there's something weird about Halo because I've played Doom 3 pretty smoothly on this computer and i've played 007: Nightfire at highest settings at 1680x1050 without any lagging at all. Maybe Halo is inefficient in some way because I can play games with much higher system requirements (i.e. Doom 3) and still get the same or better performance.

Nope, halo pc was just a really bad port. It runs so much better on xbox, which is a 733mhz processor.

Heyyo,

I agree with TMH, as long as he can play and enjoy Halo? that's all that matters. ;)

Nice to see some sweet systems on the maw boys. Zen? I think you're insane. Lol, I mean that inna good way (I think). Your system's already beefy. I highly suggest not to OC it. OCing voids warranty. So even if your vidcard dies of legit reasons? cause it was OC'd, it don't matter. So for health reasons, I suggest just running stock settings. Remember, computer components are built to run at a certain speed, if you force it to overwork, you lower its life-expectancy. Once the warranty dies? sure oc all ya want cause then it won't really matter. The only time I really suggest OCing is if you have a hella old computer, n' want a damn good reason to upgrade. Cause yeah, you can fry that sucker, n' done deal. :P

And btw, greenpanda? your system's quite good man. Just cause its a mac it should easily preform better than my ol' setup of the same caliber before I had a job. I'm highly curious to see your benchmarks man, pls post. :)

Thank's man.. I think I will take your advice and set everything back to factory specs. The funny thing is I did a Halo benchmark on my Dell, the one I've been playing Halo on for a year and a half, and got a stunning 33fps. It did alot better than I thought it would.

Thank's Mard.

This is how I normally run the game. It looks like crap, but hey, it still runs. I'm gonna upgrade my computer fairly soon, though. I'm thinking of getting an AMD XP 3100+ and a GeForce FX 5200 128MB.

Any other suggestions?

What about a GeForce FX 5700 LE 128MB? Do you think that could handle Halo at the highest settings? Also, can it handle specular and shadows? cuz my geforce 2 MX can't.

I just saw my friend play halo on his wicked-fast laptop and I was practically drooling. It looked even better than on the xbox. I was amazed!

mmmmmmmmmm. fps rates, yum
and my card is also just a 128mb card, but because of the way it is built & the type of memory it has (and that other person's too im sure) your computer treats it as two cards of that capacity. its leet.

no, you want to get at least an nVidea 6600 GT for good performance. If you're looking for an ATi, there's the Radeon X1600 XT for about $300 and if you have more money than most of us, you can get an nVidea 7800 GT(X) or an ATi Radeon X1900 XT.

no way, the x1600xt is about $150-170..... You can get an x850XT which is a hell of alot better for about $250-300.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm not made of money, you know. I'm on a strict college budget. I'm spending no more than $300 for my entire upgrade, so no more than $80 on a video card. I think an FX 5700 will do just fine, thank you very much.

okay then there's no way ever you'll find a decent $80 graphics card. The FX 5700 will DEFINITELY not play halo at highest settings. You need probably like an X800 or higher to do that.

no, you can use a 6600 vanilla (meaning plain, not a gt or anything fancy, just the low model) and have the resolution at 1280x1024 and get around 50 fps. The card that i used in my benchmarks is an x800xl.

and btw I had the fx 5700 LE(256mb) and you cant play on a high resolution. I could only play on 800 x 600 if i wanted above 25-30 fps. Dont waste your money on that card, its horrible.

nope, thats only on the old athlon xp processors themselves(nothing on the mobo). There are like 3 links that you have to bridge together by writing a small line in between them which connects the circuits.

Look up the pencil trick for athlon xp processors.

Yeah, you will be extremely disappointed. When I was a wee little nooblette, I was hankering for a graphics card for the computer my parents had recently purchased. At the time in my mind more MB=Better Card. I ran out to best buy (another stupid decision) and bought an ATi PCI 9200 with 256MB of whatever RAM it came with. When I started playing, I realized it was almost worse than my integrated graphics card, the invisible people weren't even invisible! So after much disappointment I returned it. After that I went to Best Buy and saw the ATi 9600 All-in-Wonder AGP card, I knew AGP and PCI express were better so I went out and got one. Turns out my computer didn't have an AGP slot and only PCI express. Bummer. So after almost trying to jam the card in to the computer's PCI express slot, I finally decided to return that one and ended up with an X700 Pro with 256MB of whatever kind of RAM that one had and it was PCI express. I was quite pleased. But then I realized I hate Windows so I got a mac that's way better than my PC in every aspect, even the hardware.

P.S. I got my computer replaced with a different iMac after a few problems with the one I had, check out my sig, it has the new specs!

Got dual core cpu in there, at 2.8 GHz, 2 gigs of ram and dual 256 mb pci-e geforce 6800 with sli....so I know what your thinking. All of that hardware, and those kind of results! WTF. Well, i keep messing around with the application profiles, and I can get massive improvment...just not sure the right combo. Ingame though, I average around 100 fps.
