Or at least a warning message saying "You are now exiting Bungie.net. Are you sure you trust this link?"

I say this because the Flood is currently under attack by shock spammers, and honestly there's no way to get rid of them. As long as mods don't start issuing IP bans, there isn't.

Terrible idea.

I don't want every single link that leads to a website outside bungie to have a warning, that'd just get annoying.

And there's no way to protect against shock sites when people use tiny urls and that sort of thing.

Yes, but it's annoying when people post walls o capitalized text that extend the whole page.

I say that if people post a bad link, it should automatically ban them.

When you click a link, it's pretty likely to take you away from bnet. I don't see the need to be notified about something i should know is happening.

This.

Hover over a link and look at the bottom left of the screen to see where it takes you.

*sigh* Yes, I know this. All I'm saying is that something needs to be done. If there's no way to kill the spam, then issue an IP ban to make sure the poster doesn't just come back the next day.

And you people really should read and process the whole post instead of just the parts that can allow you to come back with some sort of subtle response that makes the OP look like an idiot.

I swear, this is why I always hate posting here. Just a bunch know-it-all s who act like there's nothing we can do about any problem and you're just going to have to deal with it.

It might not help much, but if you feel you really need to click a bit.ly link, you can throw a plus sign after each bit.ly link that will take you to a sort of "properties" page, telling you how many people clicked it, where it goes, if it's been flagged as unsafe, among a few other things. It's saved my ass from harmful pages quite a few times...

Most browsers will tell you what site a link will direct you to just by hovering your cursor over it. You should ask yourself if you trust a link before you click it. It's your choice whether or not you would like to leave Bungie.net.

I work for the Department of Defense.

Might I recommend this. I've found it rather helpful for these idiotic situations.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I agree with this entirely.

Though I would completely welcome a "shock site filter". There's no need for others to learn the hard way like we did, especially if it only takes a few minutes to write up the code. Heck, even a perpetually updated Blacklist created and used by the Master Moderation team.

Commando ain't strong enough, and boxers don't got enough fight in 'em. Briefs're just too short, and thongs're fer the ladies.

I stuff it into a gun holster. It barely fits.

Left here a long time ago.

OP, all you have to do is look at the status bar, as people have said. If it's a redirect, most services offer a way to see where it leads before you're sent there.

These kinds of threads are made pretty much every time Cena's spam hits the forums. Most of us have learned to check links before opening them. You would do well to learn the same; even if Bungie.net decides to child-proof all hyperlinks, most other sites don't.

Also, child-proofing all hyperlinks is an insanely stupid idea, and it would be far more irritating than helpful.

I don't mean to advertise, but one of my userscript's features is collapsing huge posts into a scroll-box. It's linked in my sig.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Or you could just learn to hover your mouse over the link and look at the address. If it looks untrustworthy, don't trust it.

I'm fine with this mentality. I'm not a fan of how it's presented, though.

Here's my rebuttal: Have you ever considered that the people of the Community Forum may be right?

Warning notifications? Do you have any idea how annoying that will be? Oh, sorry, everybody who's ever linked to youtube, everybody who ever links to youtube, now you have to wait longer to go to it. What's that? Photobucket? Sorry, you have to wait longer, as well. No thanks.

IP bans? They're easily avoidable. All you have to do is change your IP and then you can make a new account and log in again and continue to do what you were doing before the ban happened.

Block certain URLs? They can just tinyurl them, or make different sites for them.

Honestly, the only way to stop the problem is for people to completely ignore them and to stop caring. If you acknowledge them, you're doing what they want. If they don't get acknowledged, they won't want to be here, because they're not getting a reaction. Sadly, that will never happen.

That's my take on it. I'm not really bothered by it other than seeing the giant walls of blue text (which is annoying, but I can scroll past it.) Other than that, no harm is done to me.

Agreed. The problem I see is the potential for shear volume of shocking or offending material to have to be screened or found and added. I'm not sure if it would be just like a word filter list or something entirely different.

I think it is reasonable to say that there is plenty of shocking or offending content on the 'net. Depending on your perspective, as well!

Until we get overlord-pimped spartan lasers for B.net, I think the best bet is to report and move along, citizen.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

Every time you click a link it is taking you to a different site. Unless the OP is taking you to a different thread on this site.

Do you really need someone to hold your hand on the internet?

Considering most people have dynamic IP addresses, this won't work at all. That along with proxies pretty much ruin the concept of an IP ban.

Look at where you're going to before you click. There's your shock filter.
