Could I read Halo cryptum, and still understand it without reading any other halo book?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Absolutely, but I recommend you do read the other novels too.

But you definitely should read the transcript of the Halo 3 Terminals.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

Sure, but Halo 3 is definitely needed to know what's going on. As ajw said, you need to read the terminals. Everything else is pretty much unrelated, bar a few details.

Impossible isn't a fact its an opinion

Cyptum is a stand alone to be trillogy of novels i belive by greg bear. It is all about the forerunners, i have read all of the other books apart from Cyptum but i dont see why you cant star there.. i do recomend like the other guys that you do check out the rest. The fall of Reach and the ghosts of onyx are my favorites...

OP, it is crucial for you to read terminals at Halo 3 before reading Cryptum, with that, you can understand better at reading Cryptum.

Yes, it doesn't really share any of the plots of the other books and is completely independent when it comes to characters. You should probably have played all the games, or at least know about the major ideas (the Flood, what a halo does, etc).

Halo Cryptum can be read independently without any exterior resources other than a dictionairy if you really need it. You can read the terminals and any other material on the flood/forerunners but even that material is incomplete.
