Subject: So I want to play for the first time on legendary...

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

I've only ever played the first two levels before and that was on easy but I really want to complete it on legendary.

At the moment I am making my way through a legendary guide on YouTube by "ForumExtremeDotCom" and I'm on video 24 or 25 out of 53.

So far I have noticed quite a few differences from the newer titles (like being able to instant kill Hunters and just general explosion radius' and weapon damage) and would like to ask what other differences should I watch out for

I know that this is the hardest Halo games to complete on legendary (I never managed Halo Wars but I think it could be harder) but I have finished Halo 2 on heroic solo, Halo 3 legendary solo (oddly my game history only shows normal), Halo 3 ODST legendary co-op, Halo Wars normal solo and Halo Reach legendary solo so I won't be struggling to kill every group of enemies I come across.

I never come onto this forum, Is this place dead or is this topic being skipped over?

I like Halo...

My big tip is: Run,
Just run if you can.
Don't even bother killing all your enemy's, just kill the ones who stand in your way.

And be patient with replies.
This isn't a very busy forum.

Good players work together...and no matter how good you are, you're not physic. - blade6321

In the grand scheme of Halo games, it's not that hard. Take your time, keep a pistol on you, watch out for grenades, cloaked enemies and Flood with rocket launchers. Don't waste your time with an online guide. The game pushes you as much as you push it. Back off when you need to and take it slow.

Bad, bad, bad idea. Unless it's the Library.

Don't watch the videos, it's best to find this stuff out on your own so you can use what works for you. Just take it slow and steady, and use stealth wherever you can. There are a surprisingly large number of areas where you can melee everything in the back or while they're sleeping just by being careful.

"Hey! I heard you fellas taste.... just like chicken!!"

As said, take your time. Scout the environment, look for hidden weapons and powerups (active camoflague/overshield) that can make your day (rocket launchers like the shadows and outskirts of maps)

Back crack covenant enemies as often as possible, saves you ALOT of trouble.

Be manuverable around though enemies, if they find you in a corner and you cant get around them... well..

USE, and I cant say this enough.. Covenant weapons! Needler, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle. All can cause a bit more havoc on the covenant and the elites shields than human weapons.

For EXTRA challenge. NEVER use the pistol through the whole game on legendary. Its a powerhouse of its own. And badasses dont need that. They use sticks and a rock! :P

Ditch the assault rifle. It is never a good choice.

Always have a pistol.

Backtrack for ammo.

Plasma pistol and needlers are amazing.

Spam nades. Generally plasma nades, tons of them drop in Legendary.

Dont try and advance until you kill everyone.

Make your shots count, elites will hide until their shields recharge so take them out before they can do that.

Legendary Tips and Tricks:

1-The Plasma Pistol is your best friend, almost always worth carrying one.

2-Jackals will wear you out with their wicked fast trigger fingers, take them out first in all engagements where they are close enough to fire on you, hell, take em out first at all times, I hate them!

3-Throw plasmas at groups of covies BEFORE they spot you, they tend to react slower when it drops out of nowhere than if they see you throw it.

4-You have to be more methodical and patient in Leg as foes are more aggressive and overall show less fear just because you walked into the room in your fancy armor.

5-Develop some tactics, look at what is in front of you and come up with a plan on how to dispatch the covies, rather than just running in guns a'blazin.

6-Flood.......fight backing up or circling when you encounter groups.

7-You have to use the available cover much more when playing Leg, especially against flood, use corners to block their angle of fire when approaching you in groups and make sure you are take every chance to reload on the shotty, as even two extra triggers worth of mamma's buckshot can save your butt.

THATS MY COOL MAN I CAN'T TAKE IT OFF!

Positioning. Rule number one is to never put yourself in a spot where enemies can assault you from more than one direction.

The Plasma Overcharge and M-6D combo is perfect for a first run through on Legendary. All the other weapons are quite useful too. You just have to have the patience to learn their quirks. Gimme an AR and a Red or Blue elite and I'm happy(elites not so much). Spam sticky grenades every chance you get. I use that as a first option in every encounter I can.
You can stockpile weapons by picking it up and then dropping again. They don't disappear like normal weapons do.
At close range the Plasma Rifle works wonders on elites. Medium distance elites require the Needler.
Stealth is a valuable asset. Observe enemy sentinels and patrols for a few minutes before you committ to an attack. They have pretty predictable behaviors that can be exploited.

Learn to DRIVE the warthog. It's unbeatable as long as you don't get it stuck on a rock or jammed into a corner. Don't grab health packs too early. You can come back for them when you are really down on health.
Don't rely on Marines doing much of anything for you. A sniper or chaingunner is quite useful. The others get in your way, frag you or run you over in a ghost.
Avoid using the Shade turrets. I can't think of once where they proved useful.

Always use the plasma pistol combo. If you can, use elevation to your advantage, the covies shoot for center mass, find that spot and unleash that pistol.

Kill the cannon fodder first, than take out elites.

Use your allies as distractions as you flank the enemy and be a grenade happy person.

Assault on the Control Room at Mission Start. 4 frags + shade turret.

But most skilled players either speedrun past the Covies or they just throw 1 or 2 frags (I throw 2) and finish off the Elites with pistol shots.

As for me, when dealing with Covies, I use the plasma rifle. Plasma rifle as main gun, plasma pistol or pistol as sidearm. I also like using the sniper rifle. And then there's grenades. I love throwing them.

The level Halo is atrociously difficul when compared to PoA. I hope you check out what you're getting into, this isn't Reach.

exactly, also make sure you DONT get too grenade happy you might end up sticking yourself or killing your allies. the best thing to do is always carry a shotgun and a long range weapon, or a pistol and a heavy weapon.
