So I was just reading First strike and when John and the rest arive in the captured ship, cortana "says" she sees covenant making a huge platform out of debris from human ships, which is at that time, over square km big.

Is the purpose of the platform shown anywhere in the bookd or games?

Also, why isn't this high level official the fleet thinks is on-board not actually on-board?

A few random questions, I know, but if anyone knows, you guys do!

In First Strike they did that to clear orbit of all the debris, and used some of the scraps in their mining operations.

why make a platform then? i know they herded the debris to one spot. But the platform makes no sense to me.

What I remember is that the debris was just herded into one spot, and a cluster of debris would appear similar to a platform no?

Quote: "She watched as the smaller Covenant ships cut into the dead hulks and jetted away with chuncks of Titanium-A armor. they moved like a trail of ants to a location in space over the lower latitudes, a point over Menachite Mountain, where the Covenant used the metal to contruct a platform. The thing was already a square plate a kilometer to a side. Clearly, the Covenant had more in mind for Reach than destruction."

You said that platform was used in the mining operations? sounds strange to me.

It's been forever since I've read the book.

Either way, the debris cluster and the platform are two separate things.

it's been forever for me to, but when i reread a book i normally notice stuff i may have skipped last time, like the part where the Covie AI not only sends a distress but also the slipspace calculations, first time i noticed that.

No

But i think it might serve as a station for the Covenant ships stationed at Reach providing the ships with fuel and other resources, but that's all assumptions on my part.
