Subject: Will Halo: CE or Halo 2 run on a Vista laptop?

Yo guys. Just wanted to know if Halo:CE or Halo 2 for the pc will work on a Vista laptop or do the settings for these games need a good gaming computer/laptop. Much obliged if anyone can help!

Of course, a laptop is just a portable desktop. It will run as long as your hardware specifications are reasonable.

As Zetren said, as long as it meets the hardware requirements. If you want any advice/help, post what spec's your going to be using.

it should work.. i've played younger pc games on my laptop.. it's not a gaming lapop.. it's just a dell inspirion 1525.. so the specs aren't high.. but a game as old as Halo:CE PC should work.. but Halo 2 i feel might not if the requirements are higher..

that is true.. but my laptop isn't a gaming laptop.. but it does run games like star wars battlefront 1 and 2.. so Halo 1 and 2 should be no problem?

Halo 1 possibly, Halo 2 unlikely, as Halo 2 is for some reason graphically intensive, and inspirons use integrated graphics cards which Halo 2 does not support, at best it will install but will refuse to run. Halo 1 you may encouner errors like Master Chief being white but other than that, im fairly certain it will work.

Something smells fishy...

What?! I thought Master Chief was black!

only possibly? Considering how old it is.. Ahhh, I've heard that Halo 2 has more problems than Halo 1.. but Halo 2 only runs on Vista, which I have.. if that matters at all.. >_< Well.. if that's the worst bug I'll see in Halo 1 then it sounds all good

Well, since it's an old game it should, but there's no guarentee's, i would download the Halo PC demo so you can see if it runs on the laptop before purchase, but im fairly certain the only possible bug you may encounter is MC being white instead of green but other than that, it should work. Halo 2 will not run at all.

Ah ok, where can I download the demo? Ok, so unless they remake Halo 2 for Xbox 360 or i find a decent copy of the xbox game then i won't be playing Halo 2 anytime soon..

and it also works on Windows Vista, which I have.. but are you saying I should get Windows 7 just to play Halo 2 PC?

I've found a demo for Halo 1 and it's been quite well reviewed. And it's free. But if the PC version looks too much trouble then i might just have to download Halo 1 on the 360 marketplace.

Halo 1 will work fine, it should run just like the demo which if it worked well for you, will be the same for the full game. You can even use a 360 controller if need be (although it sometimes does not work correctly). Halo 2 vista is the one that has issues. It chooses not to work on some Vista/7 machines when there's no reason why it shouldn't.

To sum up, Halo 1 will work fine on your laptop if it ran the demo, Halo 2 will not.

awesome. Halo 1 did run fine, it lagged abit but i'm not sure whether that was the demo or whether i needed to bring the settings down.. but the only lag was during combat but it didn't ruin it too much.. so maybe the full thing will run smoother, who knows.. but thanks dude! So I'll have to keep an eye out for an xbox Halo 2 :P

That lag can be solved by dropping the resolution, try to find a balance between resolution and graphics (e.g. lower settings, higher resolution and try to find the balance that suits you). No problem, glad to help :)

Damn, I have a 1525 and barely runs Halo 1. Gets like 17FPS.

  • 07.19.2011 8:20 PM PDT

Try running it on the lowest settings/and resolution, should maybe boost fps a fair bit.

aye, i found that out after messing with some of the video settings abit :P but it was still a tad slow.. :P the multiplayer was also ok, but people kept betraying and things.. and then when the game ended it wouldn't go back to the menu screen.. it just froze :O
