By now, many of you may be feeling the despair that the New Hotness is bringing: but there really is not that much to worry about. As one founder to others, I have prepared a little guide to help you cope with the losses the the upgrade is certain to bring.

First of all, make sure you save all VITAL work into a word or similar document, so you can begin rebuilding immediately after the upgrade (if rebuilding is necessary).

The biggest loss for many involves database templates. Some are lost altogether, some remain -- with restrictions.

Basically, you're going to want to try to save your most important databases. This, unfortunately, means deleting any other databases of the same type, to be sure the data YOU want is saved. Also remember that, at some point, Achronos will allow for your data to be collected in XML format.

Many will have used Article databases multiple times, for whatever reason - informative databases, input databases, and so on. Unfortunately we only get one Articles database after the upgrade, which means adaption is necessary. There is a lot of text in articles, so try to copy any you think is important enough to get fast. I recommend that you keep any member input databases (for records and so on), and find ways of assimilating other databases using that format (if the topic remained feasible, you could join all articles databases into one articles database).

In Chapter Founders, there is a detailed guide to 'the many uses of a guest book'. Obviously, as only one of these databases is permitted per group, this will no longer be possible. In this case I would recommend you save the actual Guest Book, and you'll have to make do without the other one, or find ways of using makeshift ones.

The Link List is more of an if. Nearly every active chapter uses a database list and external links database (converted from a link list model) to good effect. Some use the database for other purposes too. However, only one Link List is now permitted. The question still remains if the database and external links 'hack' will remain after the New Hotness, if they do then you'll have to make a big decision: keep the database list (or convert it into a single 'hub' database), or keep the external links database, or remove both and use it for another purpose. This might dearly effect you if you use multiple database/external links lists, but you're going to have to make do, using 'hub' databases is a good alternative.

FAQ databases and Contact Info databases will not effect all, but FAQ can be used as a rules database, or for gaming help and so on. Again, you'll just have to make do, you could try organising your FAQ into sections or using alternative databases (possibly custom) to help you.

You might well wish to look into sharing resources with allied and friendly chapters, working towards the greater good. A few shared resources would mean a lot more productivity.

So there you are, the New Hotness is nearly upon us. I do hope this helps all you founders out there, and don't get too worried; remember, it's really not all that bad.

I'd like to see new optional layouts. Basicly, aside from the theme, each chapter looks the same. There seems to be little, if any, individuality in layout / design. Changing a theme every few days helps, but allowing for more individuality by allowing the founder / staff members to select different layout options would seemingly be more worthwhile, not only adding a bit of flavor, but allowing the chapter's founder / staff members to create more of a profile for thier group. We all know that a first look leaves an ever- lasting impression on the viewer and how they respond to what they've seen.

In reply to Psyched, yeah, it sucks big fat hippo balls that we're gonna be restricted in some areas, but how many chapters actually NEED 100 databases, or actually USE the events calander? If you need an events organizer, just build a custon database. That wouldnt be all that hard, not would it! lol!

And the 100 Databases, I mean, some poeple join a chapter, and never participate in anything, includuing the databases. I'm not saying that to be mean, but the main two reasons people stick around are

A: The News

B: The Forums

So in all reality, they didnt cut back on anything vital, just things that most founders overdo that turn out to never be appriciated, even if hard work was instilled in the project. More isn't nessecarilly better, aomtimes it's simply MORE! lol.

Anyways, I'm just anxious to see what they produce with the new 7th! Good luck bungie!

I'm getting a feeling that it's gonna be like the new bungie.net

People may not like it at first. But thats how all things are with change.

I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah, combining 200 databases under the banner of a single chapter seemed not to work....I anticipate the new forums for sure.

Okay now, back on topic. THANK YOU PSYCHED. I appreciate your attempt to help the 7th column. I found you post very useful and very positive. Although the thread is tainted by some less constructive users, I believe that I gained something from reading it. So, once again, thank you.

I, personally, am a little "freaked out" by the New Hotness. I guess its the uncertainty of it all. Just have to wait and see. On the other hand, why worry? What will happen will happen and we'll just have to deal with it. In my experience I have learned that if you are going to trust one developer, trust Bungie.

But I still wan't the event posting abilities... *sob* Ah well

Yes... losing events is the biggest blow to me.

And Psyched and I are friends. We play around all the time. I didn't mean for it to get this out of hand. But I'm not sorry for it. :P

Events never kicked off in my chapter, if there was one activity bar empty, events would be it.

However -- we will still have forums and news, any really important events could be announced there.

Yes... losing events is the biggest blow to me.

My chapter has used events pretty heavily, but if no one else uses them then I understand that there is no point. Using News will work, but I still like being able to see who is commited to coming. It would be nice to post on your chapter "Clan game on Nov 17th at 8", have it be visible no matter how many news submissions there are, and then having an easy way to see who is attending. Who knows what is going to happen. I am sure Bungie will do something that will work out just as well if not better. Who knows, maybe this original change will work better right off the bat. We'll just have to wait and see.

Maybe we'll just have to work things out for ourselves. There are external calendars and so on. Well, I guess we can only wait and see.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

It is a MUCH better idea to not delete any databases, and simply let the system archive it to XML. Then, after everything comes online, you can see the results of the migration, and request your XML files to patch up the holes (if any). If you "pre-delete" stuff, it won't get transferred to XML.

Hey Mods, ever hear of "FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION?"

THIS IS AMERICA! AM-ER-IC-A! AM-ER-I-CA! Nor RU-SSi-A not CHI-NA Not AF-GAN-IS-STAN, it is AM-ER-IC-A!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

On bungie.net, you have no freedom of speech. You have the following rules:

1. You have no rights.
2. Bungie controls everything.
3. Play nice.

So, get with the program before we decide bungie.net is better without you.

Well, I've found that copying everything into word is effective -- but I'll go with you on this. My only concern is that I do have multiple databases of types such as guest book, and some are more important than others, therefore I would not wish to lose them. My concern is that I do not possess a copy of Excel, I believe that is the program that is defaultly associated with XML.
