Or at least give the administrator the option to toggle them on or off.

This would apply to the "one post every 30 seconds" and "profanity" filters.

The PM one isn't great either, especially when it pops up for no reason and messages don't get sent.

Do you believe that filters in private groups are unnecessary, or should at least be able to be switched on or off?

No, and no.

Are you constantly running into this annoying feature in private groups or on the forums? Do you want it gone too?

yoo•zel- ('yoo-zhul): slang: vb.

Officium quod Fidelitas.

I believe some other error actually causes that, I run into it from time to time and have to completely reload Bungie.net for it to go away.

It's not that bad, it's only 30 seconds. I know it's a bit annoying, but it dosen't really prevent you from doing anything.

I concur.
I can usually control myself when need be, but it would be nice to let out a few swears in private groups without having to alt code everything.
No, no... We're talking about the "Please wait 30 seconds to post again" thingy.

  • 07.16.2011 8:04 PM PDT

I've never experienced it myself, but I can imagine that it's annoying.

However, the PM anti-spam filter seems like an alright idea. Just imagine the spam if someone decided to spam PMs with a bot. The anti-spam filter prevents that. However, I think the glitch should be looked into.

lol'd

I made a thread on this very topic a while back, it didn't go very far. Most people here are more concerned with telling you that you simply cannot be posting anything worthwhile that takes you <30 seconds to type out, rather than considering the idea on its merits. I'll see if I can find it.

It would be nice if the error message would at least say "You have triggered the spam filter" instead of the 30 seconds message.

I only ran into the constant spam filter in the pm's once which was right after the whole site was down a day ago. Other than that, i've never gotten the message. So, nope and not really.

This filter isn't needed in groups. Groups are much easier to moderate than the main forums, and they self-moderate too. It's more trouble than it's worth in my opinion.

I go to sleep for several hours a night, and by the time I wake up there are quite a few threads to check in on and reply to in my group. It's extremely frustrating when I'm going through them replying and I keep being held up.

There is no need!

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

There is almost no reason for an anti-spam (and language) filter in Chapters that don't need it. A toggle option would be perfect.

Also, why aren't special characters allowed in private groups?

Yes, profanity filter should be toggleable too imo.

Ok Skibur I was only disagreeing with you because you're a jerk. But yeah, I still agree.
We should also be able to set up how long a user must wait until they can post again, if we enable the filter. That would be sweeeet.

(I misread "Spam" as "Swear". Dyslexia, it's a -blam!-.)

Oh screw off, I just saw that after I submitted.
Edit: Hell, let's also enable what user we can set it on. Hah! There's something nobody said already.

Edit: Also let's customize what it says when you trigger it, with a default message at the bottom (all of it in red text):

HEY! SCREW OFF WITH YOUR SPAM, ALRIGHT?
(You triggered the anti-spam filter and must wait __ seconds before posting again)

There. I have perfected the internet.

Yeah, i suppose toggle switches would be fine in private groups. For the PM's though, i see no problem with waiting.
PM filters are to stop the spamming robots from taking over your inbox! ;) And it works.

And it works.
And that is the problem, that it works in situations where it is wholly inappropriate for it to do so. I've heard countless tales of people trying in good faith to send a legitimate PM, but for some unknown reason it triggers the spam filter and they can't send. Sometimes rewording the PM can solve the problem, but that's unacceptable as a permanent solution, IMO.

That would be an example of when it doesn't work... Something is obviously wrong if it's been 30 seconds but you still can't send it. Another work around that is closing your browser (Possibly delete cookies, cache, etc?) and opening it back up again. But i'm just talking about not allowing spammers to spam. That's all. That works.
