By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Unless Halo 4 goes the way of Halo 2 and incorperates a switch of protagonists (which would be just brilliant), I highly doubt it.

Also, it's Glasslands, not Grasslands. :L

I personally believe Halo 4 will be centered around John and whoever else he meets on the LP. Unless the elites play a significant role or they travel there I highly doubt they will be in Halo 4.

^ This.

Chances of Elites being in is almost 0% if you ask me. Previous games and books made sure its pretty much impossible. Also: there is no apparant need for Elites to be in. I and Grey had an argument with some dude on Waypoint forums about this too, and he wouldn't accept it, but I think we should all just accept that Elites won't be in.

Why not?
-Because there is no way to get into the area "close" to the Ark where Chief is, now that the Portal has been closed (and they lack a Dreadnaught to open it).

-Because the UNSC and Elites believe Chief died in the explosion of the Halo on the Ark. They NEVER looked for dead Spartans in space, so chances of them going to try and find Chief (like a needle in a huge haystack) are slim.

-Because the Elites don't have knowledge about the Forerunner technology powering their weapons and ships. The Return (Evolutions) mentions the might of the Elites dwindling thanks to that: they are loosing more and more ships.

-Both Elites and UNSC have other things on their mind. UNSC might have to deal with Insurrectionists trying to reclaim former UNSC colonies the UNSC would also want to have back.
The Elites are busy hunting down Prophets and Brutes, and trying to get a new focus in their excistance (and a way to stop their might from breaking down)

From a gameplay perspective: sure, Elites are part of Halo. But Bungie and MS already showed Halo can still be Halo when "essential"/iconic Halo parts are missing (Elites in ODST, Flood in ODST/Reach, Halos/emphasis on Forerunners in ODST/Reach, Master Chief in ODST/Reach/Wars, AR in Halo 2, BR in Reach etc)
Furthermore, this is a new start for Halo. A chance for 343i to do something new in the series at a logical point, to avoid the series from getting stale again.

Do I believe Elites and other ex-Covies will be out for good? No, I don't. I believe the new novels by Karen Traviss and the new Halo trilogy will somewhat merge later as time passes by. So I see a possibility for typical Halo elements like the Elites and UNSC to return in say Halo 5/6, but not in 4.

4 should (and probably will) be about Chief unraveling some new threat on its own, with no back up. Removing a lot of iconic Halo elements is the only way to get that right vibe again, that feeling of exploration of something unknown....you know: that feeling that still makes CE as near-perfect as it is...

I reread Halo: Evolutions the other day,From the Office of Dr. William Arthur Iqbal (who the -blam!- chose that name?!) states that the Portal Artefact on Earth is still actively drawing power from an unknown source. I remembered this because it was the basis of one of my fan fictions, but it seems something is stirring on Earth which may come into play in the future.

Thats one of the best points I've read, but personly I still disagree that there will be no apearence of the various species in 4, we don't really know how long the chief drifted for, so we don't really know what could of happened in the time that has past, what could of been discovered, you may not be the only living thing to enter the portal. It could become very bland having just the MC and Cortanna as voiced protagonists, but meh, all just speculation thus far.

I think that the upcoming Glasslands trilogy will depict events that will lead a squad of Elites, and the group of Spartans featured in the GoO novel, embroiled in the events of the new trilogy. I don't think they'll appear in Halo 4, but perhaps by the end of 5; or in 6. The Elites are hot on the trail of Forerunner artifacts, using UNSC soldiers, and this determination to uncover their secrets will guide them into the games.
