What is it that you are asking?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Gravemind is the central intelligence of the Flood.

Cryptum implies he was once imprisoned by the Precursors for some unknown reason, he later escaped his prison on Charum Hakkor when Mendicant Bias (the Forerunner AI he had spent 43 years coaxing into rampancy) stole one of the twelve (yes, 12) Halo rings and fired it. The Prisoner survived and stowed away on the Ring.

Some time followed and he eventually became what we know as the Gravemind, hell-bent on assimilating all life in the galaxy. He was defeated at Installation 04B but implied that his defeat would only delay his return.

Isn't that just theory?

Or are there subtle hints in that book?

Haha, some are subtle but most of them are screaming in your face.
- In the Terminals, Mendicant Bias is said to have disappeared with the Gravemind for 43 years, he returns and states that he has a new master. In Cryptum, he converses with the Prisoner for 43 years and turns rampant saying he serves a new master.

- Gravemind calls himself a "timeless chorus", the Prisoner was referred to as "the Timeless One".

- Mendicant Bias was in charge of Installation 05, the same Ring he used to break the Prisoner free and used to stow him away. The same Ring we discover the Gravemind on in Halo 2.

There are others but those are the ones that scream in your face. :P
