Subject: How often to bans get appealed?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I was always wondering becuase I am sure people try to appeal bans all the time.

But, I don't know how many people actually get a ban taken away.

And, I assume it is only for Perma bans but what about normal bans?

You can appeal bans that aren't permanent. I've had a few bans lifted.

As for frequency? It's more of a case by case basis rather than getting a certain number of PMs or anything..

He'd have instantly stopped and knelt down, one fist on the ground, hoping to be impervious to the officer's attacks. When this would have failed and he's in the back of the police car, he'd blame his predicament on his friends for not being team players.

So far the record is four appeals in a day. Held by burrito.

Mythic... WHAT?!

Only the mods could answer that I assume.

I'm slightly interested myself.

You aren't getting your banned appealed ;)

It's a case by case thing, nothing that's actually "tracked"

Just about every time someone gets banned or warned they attempt to appeal it. Will they appeal successfully? Probably not; getting your ban/warning appeal is a rare occurrence. It all depends on how often the moderators make mistakes [very often].

That's what I would figure. As long as you have proof that a ban shouldn't have been given (i.e. miscommunication, etc.) then you should be fine.

I've only appealed 1 ban which was my last one. The moderator was very understanding about it.

I'm sure its a case by case thing as burrito mentioned, but if you constantly ask for ban appeals I'm sure they can close the doors on you eventually.

Why would you want to appeal a ban anyway?

This.

While your main account is banned just make a new account but before you do that make sure you clear your cookies/history otherwise the new account will be banned as well.

Seems like someone has experience with evading bans...

I tried to appeal a ban once, but the ninja who banned me was a master ninja, so after he stubbornly refused to lift my ban, it was either go to Achronos or just wait. I ened up jsut waiting the 30 days rather than go through all the drama again.

I can honestly say that in the role of a moderator I would never give in to an appeal and I sincerely hope that it isnt something the current moderators are doing on a regular basis.

Giving in can only mean one out of two things:

* You can't handle, what should be, an extremely easy task.

* You've for some reason managed to encounter a tricky greyzone case (one in a million) and taken action despite uncertainty and that no one would have known if you had just ignored it . You've in other words done something incredibly stupid and by giving in to an appeal you're just digging an even deeper hole.
I just realized that the last part is irrelevant on this site since some of the mods could be halfway to Antarctica by now and Achronos still wouldnt care.

Hello! I'm Bunie.net's resident medical student (hell i'm sure there are more but I'm the only one who openly declares it!) I love my emblem, and I am periodically active.
I have a Twitter

A more interesting statistic would be the amount of successful appeals. I bet that's very low.

@Qbix

Do you have to appeal the Mod who banned you or can you just appeal the ban to any Moderator?

It will only get appealed if there's good enough reasoning behind it - so it's a pretty inconsistent number, purely dependant on the Ninja the appeal's been handed to - and the argumentative and logical skills of the banned user.

Often enough - but small in comparison to the amount of bans handed out.

If a Forum Ninja banned you then you must either talk to that Ninja or any Master Forum Ninja, or Urk as a last resort. If a Master Forum Ninja banned you then your options are either the moderator who banned you or Urk.

If one Master Forum Ninja refuses the appeal, could you not turn to another one? Or would they differ you to a higher power?

Seems likely.

P.S. Straight from Member to Mythic, eh? That's bad ass!

  • 07.18.2011 11:28 AM PDT

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

My only issue with the appeal system is Ninjas very rarely reply to you when you are banned with everyone on a certain topic (Parody/Spam threads that get carpet banned). Several of my bans over the years were because of this, and only once did a Ninja reply to me.
