This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

After having fought my way through the Corvette alongside the music of Daft Punk, I managed to reach the bridge. After clearing it out, I stood and observed the hologram in the center of the room, which displays UNSC and Covenant force deployment across the entire planet, remembering a thread a couple weeks ago about this hologram. After observing it in theater a for a good hour, I have come up with the following theories or interpretations of what each hologram means:

- Corvettes in the hologram are in yellow, which would suggest Covenant forces are in yellow, Spirit Dropship brigades are also represented in yellow.

- 41 dots are represent in high orbit over Reach, which leads me to belive are the exit slipspace coordinates for the arriving Covenant Fleet at the end of the level.

- It is not possible that each dot represents a Corvette as there would be approximatly 138 Corvettes in total (Yes, I counted them). A fleet of 138 Corvettes would be a serious problem for the Reach home fleet, especially after suffering a surprise attack in orbit (Remember TotS opening cutscene, Dot says ''We are under attack in the Viery territory, including orbital defenses''.

- The yellow dots must represent Covenant forces in orbit, but not only Capital Ships (Carries, Frigates, Destroyers, etc) We only see Corvettes throughout the campaign because they were assigned to lower priority objectives (Occupy cities, raids on underdefended UNSC facilities) while bigger ships were sent on higher objectives, like engaging other UNSC capital ships (Like the Cruiser that attacks the POA)

- The boarded Covenant Corvette is shown in the hologram, in suppossibly ''Covenant Occupied Space''. For some reason, this is the area of Reach's orbit where there are less Covenant forces present.

- There is a yellow dot surrounded by a red square and a Corvette hologram with apparent red text. Logic would say this represents the boarded Corvette (See above), and thus the Covenant knew about the boarded Corvette. This leaves two options:

1. Either this is a local TACMAP, which is updated every certain ammount of time, thus not allowing the rest of the Covenant fleet knowledge of the overrun Corvette. Knowing the UNSC has an updated by the secound TACMAP, this dosent seem possible for the Covenant, but it's still a possibility.

2. The TACMAP is similar to the UNSC's, which would mean the Covenant knew of the boarded Corvette, but did nothing about it, most likely underestimating what the UNSC was capable of, dismising it as a simple raid.

- Red spots show UNSC positions or UNSC high value targets, that are or are not currently under siege by ally forces.

- SWORDBASE is represented on the hologram, as being a red square surrounded by a yellow square, which would mean it's occupied or it's being assaulted, this time there are numorous yellow dots, meaning a full force attack. This area is towards the northern polar region, next to the ocean, which would fit with Swordbase's geographical location.

Additional: Either Reach is as badly defended as the hologram shows and has pretty much no orbital assest left, or the Covenant dosent have solid intel on deployment of UNSC fleets not currently in combat, which is what it hopefully is, because if not this is just another insult towards ''The most heavily defended UNSC colony''.

This is ofcourse, my interpretation of the hologram, and my best guess. Even then, it's still a big mess and still dosent really help the lone of canon Halo Reach represents. Bungie's done goofed up, again. Any thoughts on this guys?

Discuss.

Haven't had the chance to study it myself, but what is your final opinion on this? i fail to see the point of all this.

Is it possible that the yellow dots are ODP's? That would make sense as to why the Covenant Space is clear. It also makes more sense that they're ODP's because in the cutscene at the end, the Assault Carriers that are shown coming out of Slipspace are around the area of Anchor 9.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

I think that those red rectangles next to that corvette is supposed to be Savannah, red meaning that it's destroyed. And I don't think yellow marks the faction, so that large group of dots could be UNSC fleet. Which would make sense, because if that corvette indeed is Ardent prayer, then it's really close to the LNoS (not visible on the hologram for some reason), and UNSC fleet would be on the other side of the planet waiting for it to blow up.

Does this make sense?

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Corvette wouldn't be an issue for the legitimate fleet since they are roughly the size of a frigate and have no shields.

The red square with yellow dot in it next to the Corvette likely represents the Super Carrier for it is the only unique symbol on the map in close proximity to a Corvette, as well as it being over land. Roughly it's the same positioning as the Corvette you're on and the SC nearby. The Corvette symbol itself being the one you're on.

Also in regards to the various yellow squares with red in them. They do represent some shared point of interest with the Covenant. Particularly potential dig sites for Forerunner artifacts. You can see this because they match up with locations on Halsey's excavation map.

Oh and on the topic of that you can also pinpoint where Sword, Castle, and Visegrad are because they're noted on Halsey's map and in turn are also noted on the hologram. Which is why I've personally ruled out Sword Base being the red squares with the yellow inside them and instead believe that to be the SC.

I find it very unlikely that the yellow dots are covenant forces as all other covenant forces have specified symbols representing them like corvettes and spirit deployments.

This only other logical solution is that they are UNSC orbital forces, including refit stations like anchor nine, which there are eighteen of, and the raised section to be the ODP formation along with support craft, as it fits in with the description of the book and also explains why the SC wasn't shot down by them as they are all out of range.

This is the way I see it. This is a recon mission so the ships you see on the map are deployed somewhere thats why there are so few. The Yellow circles represent Orbital defense platforms. Red things are Possible UNSC vital locations. The map is an up to date tac map. The corvett does not show up as being attacked because the comms are jammed.

Error 404:
-Error not found.

It would really be confusing if Bungie intentionally goofed it up doing something meaningless that would cause everyone to wonder why reach doesn't have defenses...

I agree with the 41 dots thing. There is a picture a corvette that seems to represent the Ardent Prayer. If you look at the dots from the corvette image, you get a very similar view of the dots to the view you get of the covenant fleet arriving during the ending cutscene of the Long Night of Solace.

but the dots are a quarter way 'round the planet.

OP clearly has knowledge on Halo ans a true dedicated fan. I can't believe anyone can be so dedicated and spend the time to learn about Halo :). This was a great read.
Most of the people on this forum are dedicated to Halo.
