Please stop going down that avenue, The humans were de-evolved and it is forerunner ships on the cover.

Just get over it.

The site linked in the OP says that humans are in the book, and they do something.

Yes, Chakas and Riser, characters from the first book. De-evolved humans.

They're likely talking about Riser and Chakas.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” – Psalms 46:1-3

Pseudo-on topic, someone posted on Factpile a vs match between a Forerunner Fortress and the SSV Normandy.

According to the majority of the people there, Normandy wins, due to the Forerunner's shield and hull being torn apart by the Thanix Cannon.

Could anybody dispute this?

Ah, Factpile... Where the average IQ hovers around 6 and a reasoned argument is "cos iz cool lollloololo!!!1ONE"

As to the so-called "Normandy victory"?

I have dismissed those claims.

The Didact would kick the -blam!- out of everything in Mass Effect. And the Forerunners would wipe out the Reapers.

Assuming his armour has similar capabilities to the ones that the Builder Security forces were using against the San Shyuum.... Well, yes, he would even present a real risk to Mass Effect starships by himself.

And the Forerunners would wipe out the Reapers.

To be fair, the Forerunner are quite 'up there' when if comes to sci-fi civilisations, they could in theory wipe out a lot of other sci-fi races.

Dont get me wrong i loved born's character, and the didact's stature. But now i am much more interested in the human story; i would love it if greg bear elaborated on the technology that the humans created using reverse engineered precursor technology, and how the forerunner "had very little defense against it"

Well, the fight doesn't even exist it would seem. 7 searches on Factpile, back tracking through ten pages of recent FP history and 5 searches on google have revealed nothing. As far as Factpile is concerned, the term Forerunner Fortress doesn't even appear in their archives.

It would seem to me SC MatKlassen seriously gets off on the Forerunner's power and just made an attempt to incite a Forerunner vs Alliance debate for the sole purpose of proving the Forerunners are especially awesome. It wouldn't be the first time he's done it (Forerunner vs the guys from Starship trooper).

They didn't reverse engineered Precursor tech, they combined their tech with the san shuum which led to powerful weapons against the 4runners

Though they did use Precursor structures as bases. Probably why Charum Hakkor took 50 years to take. Can't be bombed from orbit because the base is indestructable. They would have had to send troops in personally to root out the humans, a long bloody process.

And did anyone notice the figures in the picture are holding rifles of some sort?

The war has begun....

Q. does it state in the novel (cryptum) how long the Human-Forerunner war lasted? I can't find anything in the book and Halopedian.com just lists the war without any dates. Anyone know the answer?

The Forerunner-Flood war lasted 300 years right? how exactly did the Forerunners lose? I now that Bias went AWOL and gathered a Flood fleet to destroy the Ark but the Terminals don't have anything on how the war went downhill really, just the end stages. So how do the Flood jump from being the spore kind that the Ancient humans fight and defeat, too the All-consuming horde we know from the Halo trilogy?

Is this explained in Crptum? the New book cover looks amazing, I can't wait to get my hands on it and Glasslands. does anyone think the new books will have hints/clues as to the plot of Halo 4? it might just be me, but I can't help but think that John will encounter a Precursor or their technology or something in game. what with all these recent reveals of the former masters of the Forerunners.

So wait the Precursors seeded life in the Galaxy? isn't the Milky Way supposed be billions of years old if not more? the Precursors can't be that old a species, surely there was life and previous civilizations before them right? just processing this information.

1. 50 years of humans probing forerunner space, 50 years of fighting. 100 years.

2.The forerunners lost because they were dicking around and not being serious. but the other main reason was because MB changed sides. They left our galaxy for 10,000 years infecting other galaxys getting to get stronger then came back.

3. yes all of this was explained in the book. They will indirectly. Didact is building shieldworlds in the next book and Glasslands is post halo 3. The terminals in CEA are halo 4 related.

4. they could be one of the first lifeforms. in all honestly, life on earth developed very very late, especially us.

Perhaps they are forerunner escorts? Riser and Chakas are important somehow. I doubt they would be able to cross a war torn halo without protection. I also doubt the other two are humans. Unless some humans survived Charum Hakkor and been in hiding they are definitely forerunner.

1) I'm not sure

2) 4 reasons

I) The Forerunner didn't take it seriously at first

II) MB joined the Flood

III) The Flood the FR fought had evolved

IV) By the time the Forerunners took a more serious approach, the Flood had gathered sufficient forces to make quick hit and run/rush tactics without worrying about losing ships. Should one Flood spore land on any planet, said planet was deemed lost and the world destroyed by any Forerunner ships in orbit. The Flood needed only to get to the atmosphere, and entire woulds would succumb. So it became a numbers game the Forerunners statistically could not win.

Thank you. Thats helped a lot, I really should read Cryptum but for some reason it's still not in stores over here in the UK, which is really annoying. I would have thought that after 50 years of study and probes, the Human-San Shy'uum empire would have come up with some nifty anti-forerunner weapons and stuff. then again they were attacked by the flood at the same time so there's that and they lasted 50 years, which is impressive given how advanced the Forerunner's were/are.

Did you think that if the flood hadn't shown up as they did, do you think that the Human's would have won? that is true and as any geologist will tell you, humanity has been alive compared to the Earth for less than a blink I think. Perhaps they were among the first advanced civilisations to arise and then became top dog or something.

That was rather stupid and arrogant of the forerunners to do. To actually not take seriously the most dangerous threat to life in the known universe. what were they thinking? 'oh it all blow over soon ' 'we'll be home for christmas' 'their just stupid plant things, their completely harmless" perhaps something along the lines of these idiotic statements?

Q. Are the forerunners still around and if they are, where the hell have they all been? I know that this is off-topic but why is John so special, what does or rather what did Bias see in John that he didn't see in others? in the last terminal it says something like this "There is more....But you are not worthy. .....Not Yet."
a rather cryptic message, is it foreshadowing do you think?

Well, they didn't realize its nature; they figured it was some sort of a disease found on some random planet, not the bane of all life.

And to answer your question, yes, in fact, the Forerunners are still alive. According to the encyclopedia, they left the galaxy to places unknown.
