This has got to be the most commonly broken rule in bungie. I've gone through several threads and about 70% of the replies were "from" the creator of the thread. I don't know, but it's starting to become more and more used.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Well aside from looking into every thread on the site, there isnt much you can do about it.

Are you saying the creator of the thread can't reply to his own thread?

  • 03.04.2006 3:48 PM PDT

Some people just don't know what the "edit" button is.

I really think it's fine where you are only double posting and the second post looks legitimate. Even then you can use the "Edit" button, like Goweb has said above. If some one is triple or quadruple posting and the posts are obviously not legitimate, then action should be taken.

  • 03.04.2006 5:54 PM PDT

well, why not think of it like this: if one post came right after another (in a succession of like 1 or 2 minutes), then its probably not a problem. They were just giving another point to whatever they were talking about and for whatever reason didn't edit. I think that's fine and shouldn't be punished harshly. Of course, if they are just bumping, then there's a problem that needs to be taken care of.

No, I'm saying that people are abusing the "submit" button. Bumping really isnt needed. Since most of the posts that are bumped are made in "The Flood", then thats even more unessisary. Bungie has very many members that will reply to posts. I dont think I've seen one thread in the flood, excluding being locked, that has not been replied to once.

I constantly post in The Flood, and I have only seen bumping performed once tonight... I do not think it is a big problem.

But you also realize those theory threads where they ran out of space and have to make another post I think thats ok.

I think it's okay to double-post if you're debating tseveral people and in one of the posts you quote one person and debate him and then in the other post you quote the other person and debate him because some people don't want to copy their last quote and rebbutal and then bring it to their next reply where they quote the other person and provide another rebuttal.

See where you're coming from, but to me that would be sheer laziness.
Perhaps a multi quote feature for the future?

That is one decent reason why to. But as for the others, it's not needed. I also find it strange that about 70 percent of people who posted here said they thought it was okay to double post...

I'll be on my own side.

I seriously doubt that anybody reads the rules when they sign up. They just assume that this is just like all the other forums out there, get banned, and then say the mods are jerks and banned them for no reason.

There are very few reasons for double posting. One is the theory threads like someone mentioned. I honestly can't think of anything else though. Use the damn edit button!

Most of the time, the mods lock/delete posts where there's bumping or multi-posting.

I constantly edit my posts, and only double post in the most dire of situations. However, I generally don't mind the occasional double post. If it's the same person doing it then I might get aggrivated, but I never saw a huge problem with it. I've seen quadrouple posts before, and that gets irritating.

Double posting should NOT be a problem if its not bumping the topic. I mean, seriously, its not like bungie loses money over it.

Well it classifies as spam, which the bungie rules state not to do.

It's usually pretty obvious what someone's motives are when they post in their own thread. The thread creator discussing or clarifying certain points of view is very different from when their post is:

Yeah, I totally agree.
Some people just will not let their thread die. I say to them:

Send me a group invite, and I shall return a harsh reply. Do not invite me to groups. I do not accept. Don't believe me? Look at the list of groups I'm in right now. Consider this your warning.

Not that hard. Click Reply, quote, type reply, highlight, Ctrl+C, Alt+<-, click next reply, Ctrl+V, Quote, and so on. I can quote and reply to 4 people in a single response in under 2 minutes.

I know it's easy, but as long as it doesn't bump the thread and they aren't making four or five posts at a time, then I'm alright with it.

If you take up every onther post, thats a problem. But if you only post like every 5 posts, thats ok. I've seen people post 5 times in a row. In that case, why not edit?
