To the OP,
that's a good observation there but it doesn't really confirm that it's Mk 7 armor...
I mean, look at all the armor variations in Reach...none of which existed in the canon or anywhere else until the game came out. There was no mention of alternate Mjolnir armors. There was just Mjolnir, and Spartans all looked the same.
Personally, I think it's more believable that John's Mk 6 had the jet-pack/thruster tech in it all along, simply because his armor has been unique from the start anyway (compared to the standard Mjolnir). For exmaple, being able to sync with an AI is one unique feature to his armor... So it wouldn't surprise me if, when he received Mk 6, it also came with prototype thrusters in it that he may have been advised not to use. That's one way 343 could spin it anyway...
There are atleast 4 ops that come up in the top of my head that he should have used them for then. Not to mention cortana would have advised them.
If they completely retcon that over covie vehicles or atleast some covie vehicles having shields i am going to quit.
Did you read what he said at all? As a different theory, maybe he was woken up earlier for Cortana for repair and upgrade to his armour? There are hundreds of different explanations, it has been 5-12 years since Halo 3.
Explain to me how cortana could possibly change his armor when she can't touch him? There is nothing cortana could update his armor isn't Firefox. Not to mention that would be wasting his air along with him randomly getting a thruster pack for no reason.
At the end of halo 3 they are just drifting in space; space is massive they could do that for thousands of years, so it makes no sense to randomly get a thruster pack and waste air that might be needed later.
IT is at the legendary version in which halo 4 take place and it has been roughly 5 years since halo 3, not 12.
