You have to create a new Bungie.net account with the same username. You can't change your username on Bugnie.net, and it doesn't change automatically.

How do I change my gamertag associated with my bungie account?

  • 07.20.2011 9:43 AM PDT

i have tried making new accounts but every time i tried it was the wrong gamertag still. I am out of email addresses. What do I do?

  • 07.20.2011 9:46 AM PDT

once a tag is linked to a bungie account it is permanent. If you change your gamertag (like rename it not change to a whole new live account) then it will update on here (mine did when I did it back in the H2 days) but if its a completely different xbl GT then you need to make a new bungie account and link it to that.

Hope that helps.

please correct me if im wrong anyone.

I see what you mean... but mine is a completely different xbl GT and i have run out of email addresses for new accounts. Are you sure that is the only way?

yes. if its a different xbl GT then it requires you to link it to a different bungie.net account. sorry about that, i know it can seem inconvenient for you, but its much more inconvenient for bungie. its to ensure that any rewards you gain here only go to one gt and that your not swapping out for a friends tag or something and passing on glory. among other things im sure.

man that sucks... but thanks for the help.

np, it can be a pain. but at least your not a high ranking bungie member. and really, you still have this account. just your xbl stuff will be sent through another b.net account

oh and if you need anything else, or need a new halo partner feel free to add me up. glad to help or play a round anytime :)

You're so helpful Milk.

There's one way that can help you out OP. Recover the GT of your Bungie.Net Account, any of them. Then go into Account Management VIA the XBL Dashboard and switch it to another email. Then on your new gamertag, using the same method, change the email to your Bungie.Net Account email.

Wake me, when you need me.

If you want a new Bnet name, you have to make a new Bnet account.

BUT, if you just want to simply change your Gamertag without creating a Bnet account, that is simple. Just change your gamertag and it will automatically update on here. No need to create a new Bnet account.

I've done it several times

I actually never thought of that (which without explanation it seems complicated and prolly wouldnt be thought of by most) but then again I havent had this issue since the xbox original days. and im pretty sure you couldnt do it back then at all. so thanks for the info and i hope it helps OP :)
