Subject: Will You Be Buying Halo 2 for Windows Vista?

Not a good enough comp.

No, for several reasons. One is that I won't be paying for windows vista any time soon after it comes out, nor will I be paying for a better PC just so I can run it. I don't play PC games either, I prefer sitting on my sofa in front of my big tv for gaming and I like to be able to play split screen when friends are round. Even now I put my PC through my tv, using the mouse and keyboard just isn't comfortable unless I'm sitting at a desk and I'd prefer to be on my sofa with beer at the ready.

No, I'm happy with my Windows XP Laptop and my soon-to-be-mine Mac.

Besides, seems Vista is going to have a bunch of worthless -blam!- you don't need.

I might if I HAVE Vista. And also, if maybe if they add map editors, search-by-game multiplayer, and fix the superbounce thing.

Standbying, bridging, and modding are all on the increase. Bridging is just so out of control it's to the point where my party will only get host about 1 in every 10 games (until the Americans get home from school). Then, it's about 1 in every 25 games. I don't expect to get host more than any American (due to geography), but at least we used to get it about 1 in every 5 games!

It needs sorting out soon before it gets even worse!

well, the host system is my biggest concern. if it's just some legacy p.o.s., then i ain't buying. if they actually improve the game, and fix the things that should've been fixed in h2 for xbox, then i might buy. until then, i'm not buying. as i understand it, the only improvements will be the graphics and the addition of a map editor.

I'm not sure why Bungie's making H2 for Windows Vista, really. Unless they plan on fixing some of the problems in H2 for Xbox, then I think H2 for Windows Vista is going to be a big flop.

My question is: If H2 for Windows Vista has completely random servers (matchmaking), superbounces, and a legacy host system (think bridging and standbying), then will you be buying it?

IF there are major improvements (especially in the multiplayer area: think very good netcode and linux dedicated servers), then i will get it. I already fully intend to buy vista for my new PC.

wow. no one likes vista. [sarcasm]big suprise![/sarcasm] i don't think it would matter if halo 2 for pc was windows vista-only or not. people just don't seem to like it.

you need air dude.............

no point in getting halo 2 for PC why you may ask. because its a year old game which by the time it comes out it will be about 2 years old. the only difference between the xbox version of halo 2 and the PC version is that the PC version will have higher res graphics, you will need a good computer just to run the game which will be expensive and pointless. the game will get some of the bugs fixed plus there will be servers so the host advangate will be very little plus some other stuff.

buy an xbox for about £100 with halo 2 or buy a £900 PC with halo 2 and windows vista for about £1200. which would you choose.

You're acting like the only thing you can do with an expensive computer is play Halo 2.

I already have a good enough PC. PC's are a better value than consoles because they do so much more. Internet, DVDs, music, Email, mods, video editing, play games with higher resolution graphics, and more.

With consoles you're stuck with the same outdated hardware for the next five years. PCs can always be upgraded so you can always have the best experience.

It's annoying how people who can't afford decent PCs exxagerate the price. My PC cost about $700 and I can play BF2 at near-maximum settings, and Halo runs at max at 40+ FPS. Next time, before you open your mouth, get your facts straight.

BTW, get a job kid, just because you can't afford a good PC, that doesn't mean PCs suck.

Well since I love Halo but hate consoles, I have only one choice and that is to buy it for Vista. I would buy Vista anyways albeit maybe not as soon, but hey; a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Now if Vista comes out one month and then Halo2 does not come out until a few months later, then I might wait for a stability patch for Vista before making a purchase.

did i evere say i hate PCs. no i did not. do you really think a 14 year old boy like me be able to pay £700 for a new computer even he/ i have a paper round. the thing is that with consoles they are cheaper and more viable for people to buy compared a £700 PC. the only way a 14 year old boy could get a £700 is if he is spolit so you can get your facts right

I work for Geek Squad and I am currently Beta testing Windows Vista, I have tested Vista, XP Pro 64, among others. I am an avid gamer, both PC and Xbox. I was a big fan of Halo 2 for a while, now I don't play as much due to work, girlfriend living with me, so forth. I will be buying Halo 2 for Vista and there is several reasons why:

1: I have came to prefer the mouse and keyboard combo over the xbox controller, so being able to play Halo 2 on my PC will be nice.

2: Windows Vista's raw speed, graphic ability, and interface is so far beyond XP even in its early stages, and it will only get better.

3: With the new graphical engines and Direct 10x for Vista, the higher end PCs will have Halo 2 looking great, better than the XBox for sure.

4: It's Halo, and it's the PC.

I was disappointed with Halo PC, as well as Halo 2 at first glance. Both feel like they're is something missing compared to the original Halo for the Xbox. However given time and possibly having a new team make Halo 2 PC (besides gearbox who are terrible) I think the game will be great and I can't wait to try it out. Just for everyone's information, please do not dis Vista till you have tried it. It's not Microsoft's fault you are too poor to build a PC that can do the things Vista is capable of, but don't think something is crap just because it's beyond your budget. kthx.

Yeah, i've noticed that about alot of HPC players, they think that A) You need a top-top-top of the range PC to play anything that was released after HPC and B) PC hardware is very expensive. I spent just under £400 on my new pc and it can play BF2 at max with above 40fps and cs:s at max with over 80fps. I haven't even belittled it with trying Halo PC so don't ask about that.

I have a heard time believing that Windows Vista is going to address all the shortcomings of XP and Win2k. I've run both Win2k and XP on the same machine and you know what? I like Win2k better.

Seeing as how H2 is never going to be released for the Mac (thanks a lot Havok) I might pirate H2 for Vista, but I sure as hell won't be paying money for it. If they made H2 for Mac and it wasn't a complete piece of schist like H1 was, I would gladly pay for it. Sadly that ain't gonna happen because Bungie is now an M$ hardware marketing tool.

Sooner or later, everyone will have Vista. Just like everyone has XP now. Just like when everyone had Win9x eight years ago.

Oh, and, Mac and F/OSS users, don't flame me about this post. You know what I mean.

I'll wait and see how it turns out, I wasn't impressed with the Halo 1 port but I think the port of Halo 2 will be too important for Microsoft and Bungie to take a half assed approach with, so I look forward to hearing more information.

Wow, that's some prime angst right there. I'm a gamer, and I've paid for Windows, I don't have a problem with XP.

A lot of you guys seem to be quite angry at Vista, I don't understand why - it's a very nice operating system with a lot of improvements over XP and fantastic potential for gaming.

Also, Bungie haven't yet said what Halo 2 PC will include, so I'm not sure where people are digging up this "all halo 2 pc will have is higher res graphics" nonsense, perhaps you know something we all don't?
