"I'm sorry but did you really mean to suck?"

If a Warthog is in the game you need a marine to gun and a sgt to ride shotgun with a rocket launcher

marine = chips dubbo

sgt = pete stacker

if johnson is dead then they will do fine with plot armour

No, ExcessiveFaun6 is not my real gamertag.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cortana: The message just repeats. "Regret, Regret, Regret."
Miranda: Any idea what it means?
Sgt. Johnson: Dear Humanity... we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
Marines: Hoo-rah!

I miss me some Sgt. Johnson :(

Same here.

I really wonder if we actually will get a sidekick like Johnson this time.

After all: this is about Chief exploring new, unfamiliar places, people and conflicts.
Much like it was with CE 10 years ago. And did we have a constant sidekick apart from Cortana then? Nope.
And to be honest: having no sidekick apart from a rampaging Cortana makes you feel completely new and submerged in the galaxy, on your own. And that last part is important I guess. Chief is alone out there (presumably) and adding a Johnson like character could interfere with that feeling.

Although a lot of the concept art does involve 2 characters who presumably are already known to us, standing next to what looks a lot like Chief: Chakras and Riser.
I think adding people from this new, mysterious world as sort of wingmen later on in the story could work better than having another UNSC Marine (if even possible!) on your side.

Johnson was there and badass as ever in Halo CE. Why couldn't he be in Halo 4?

There will be another johnson equivelant. Im pretty sure that 343 will make this equivelant a foreruuner piece of tech (like an AI). Take a classic Cortana line

'You finally found me'

Now use this ass kicking and wise talking johnson AI

'So you finally found me, it took you long enough ya idiot'
puts cigar in his artificial mouth.

XD i wish

But in CE he wasn't your sidekick. Matter of fact: he wasn't even a regular character yet. Just the most prominent out of all Marines who happened to be included in a lot of jokes which caught the fan's eyes and made Bungie decide to make him a real character.

Why wouldn't he be in Halo 4? Well, because he actually died in H3. His "death" in CE was explained in The Flood/First Strike, to make his transition into a real character. But in H3, he truely died.
And how would you want to bring him back? The reconstructed Halo blew up at the end of H3, and with it Johnsons body. So nothing for the UNSC to reanimate or clone...Also, bringing Johnson back in H4 would make his death and its impact in H3 seem stupid and unneccecary.

I'm fine with having a sidekick in H4, but I wouldn't count on anything like how Johnson was in the Classic Trilogy.

How about Mendez?

  • 10.01.2011 1:18 AM PDT

Mendez could only work if the UNSC somehow makes it into the story of H4. Which I still doubt, but we'll see.

But he could be interesting, as he is the one who trained Chief. Still, I think he would look and feel too much like Johnson. I'd still rather have a "alien" sidekick on my side.

  • 10.01.2011 1:27 AM PDT

Honestly, I think it would be rather funny if they just put him in the game with no explanation and then just like in Halo 2 when he was asked how he got home, just say its classified. Of course, First Strike explained how.

So if not the UNSC, who is flying the Longsword-looking craft in the concept art video?

Who's saying it is in fact a Longsword? ;)
Like you say yourself: Longswordlooking craft. Could be Forerunner, could be anything.

  • 10.01.2011 1:55 AM PDT

One does not simply trolololol into Mordor.

Lol Forerunner tech puts his mind into a Guilty Spark - like body.
Man that would be a badass A.I.

  • 10.01.2011 4:35 AM PDT

I'm pretty sure they're going to bring back the other member of blue team, plus halsey...mendez and the other living S-IIIs, since halsey and the other S-IIs are all "reclaimers". Makes sense for the reclaimer trilogy right?

(for the record, not all humans are reclaimers, apparently, just S-IIs, and likely halsey herself, hence miranda. Anyone who is genetically related to chakas, as it were.)

That's what karen travis' book is hinting at, since 343 since it's all getting integrated.

So there will be plenty of characters to fill that role.

Johnson was awesome in Halo CE and yet the game kept the feeling you described. What I am is trying to say is we can still have a similar character like that in Halo 4 and keep that great feeling.

I am the best thing that ever happened to you

A replacement for Johnson is essential to Halo 4. I believe he should be a three hundred pound Asian man with Down Syndrome and instead of having badass quotes he could have really funny ones like the retard from red vs. blue. He could also kick ass, but in a kind of accidental way like Gomer Pyle or something.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

Doesn't mean he needs to comes back. Give the man peace. His story is over.

Are you talking about Master Chief or Johnson? This could apply to both.

Well then you do agree with what I said ;) Because I am fine with a character like CE's Johnson, or Half-Jaw in H2: prominent non-sidekick NPC, but a replacement for Johnson as a real sidekick like he was in H2/H3....meh.

Oh and to that other dude: Everything I read about Traviss' books right now makes me want to puke to be honest. Everything she says about where shes going with the book feels too un-Halo to me...and thats the first time I've ever had that with anything Halo related. I mean, Spartans being Reclaimers but regular Humans not? What?! After H3 made so clear every Human is a reclaimer (Miranda and Johnson being used by Truth for that purpose), or Contact Harvest clearly pointing at every human being Reclaimer.

I do believe the cast of the Traviss Trilogy will be included at some point during the Reclaimer Trilogy, but my guess is H4 will play out like CE did: you alone on a distant planet with no backup. And that it will only feature elements from the Forerunner Trilogy by Greg Bear.
