Subject: And I thought Halo: CE: Anniversary would excite me....

All these years, I've been hoping for a Combat Evolved remake. Now, we finally get it, and I am actually somewhat disappointed.

I mean, I'm extremely happy they were able to keep the gameplay itself the same, while upgrading the looks. Unfortunately, they changed it to the Reach looks, instead of keeping some form of consistency with the entire goddamn series before it. So much for the high-end golden zealots to mow down.

The main thing I wanted for this was the original multiplayer. Now I know why they couldn't include it in the original. It was released before X-Box Live, so there was literally no netcode. The Halo PC code was just slapped on by Gearbox when they ported it. But now we find out that they didn't redo the original multiplayer because to optimize it would have changed everything. I don't fully believe them, considering the performance of Halo PC.

Instead, they added a large Reach map pack. To maintain the population instead of split it, which isn't a bad idea. However, I am not going to drop $40 on a remake of a game when roughly half of that is paying for a map pack for a game I don't like. I didn't buy any other map packs. I traded the game itself in for $9.

tl;dr I'm upset that they used the Reach visuals instead of Halo 3-ish and that they're forcing us to buy a Reach map pack instead of legitimate multiplayer instead of just shipping without.

I don't mind the Reach visuals (As long as it doesn't have the motion blur that Reach has. Am I the only one who experiences this, by the way?), but I do wish that its multiplayer was more fleshed out instead of just being a simple map pack.

Yeah, I get motion blur too. Annoying as hell.

I'm gonna reserve my opinions about Anniversary until it comes out. I learned to do that when Reach came out. I was slightly disappointed with Reach. Don't get me wrong, I love Reach, but I was expecting more.

They're not using Reach visuals. If you're referring to the new gameplay footage with commentary, the guy said the footage was taken from the build they used for the E3 announcement, which was when lots of the models were placeholders.

So does this mean the goldies (gold Zealots) are returning? I was thinking that they were going to replace them with Ultra Elites (given the unexpected armor color change seen in the trailer).

I wouldn't call it the 'Reach' look, it just looks like a next-gen FPS. Actually I think the visuals blow away Reach so far.

This was a microsoft call, not 343. Any interview with Frankie or whoever discussing it should make it obvious. CE's original would've performed just fine if they built netcode, Microsoft just doesn't want anything interfering with sales for the next Halo game. If a whole new generation discovers how -blam!- epic CE multiplayer was, they're not as inclined to buy Halo 4.

Well, you'll be able to access multiplayer from CE:A and play only the classic maps. I'd wait to see what the title update brings in terms of classic options before making your verdict.

I can play the game, with same graphics, same gameplay and most glitches intact, but with online coop. That makes me happy :)
The graphics layer is just a bonus to me and im wondering how much i will actually use it.

If just they had done the same with the multiplayer.

Link please?
I seen a couple of those interviews, and it's mostly Franky saying that it was a hard descision, but ultimately they choose the Reach option, because the Halo:CE game with netcode woulden't be the game you remembered, with lag and all
It's obviously BS, but thats pretty much all i heard from him.

Link for what? What I'm saying is, Microsoft made the call behind the scenes. If it was up to 343i they would've made CE multiplayer work. There's no hard evidence to support this, but if you read between the lines in interviews and whatnot, you have to believe that this is what went down.

I meant visuals using the same graphical style as Reach, not actually taking assets from Reach and reusing them. x3

I get what you are saying, i just thought maybe Frankie had changed his statement, or there was some evidence on the MS thing.
But i find it hard to believe MS sould be the ones denying the CE multiplayer in CEA.
Splitting the Halo population? I doubt an old game like CE would be able to do that, simply because it's old.

I think I know what you're talking about. Does it only happen on the Forge World maps?

The gold elite didnt appear until you went down into the structure.(he's the one w/ the sword) After u went to the other building to unlock the door (which you could go straight to the unlock door to skip an extra step (which i hope they keep in the remake))

I know it's just the remakes. The problem is I just despise Reach's gameplay so I would only be playing it because all my friends are.

  • 07.23.2011 7:33 PM PDT

I agree. The reason I'm not buying this game is because it doesn't support online multiplayer. Once again, the lessons of ODST have been overlooked. If you can play the campaign online, then the multiplayer should be there. At the least, modify Reach with Halo settings and weapon damage. I'll wait till I can grab it off the bargin bin for $5.

  • 07.24.2011 7:18 AM PDT

I give it a few months until it hits the bargain bins.

Because of this I probably won't buy the game. I prefer Halo CE looks over Reaches, and I still have my original CE disc that I can use.

  • 07.25.2011 5:32 PM PDT

Dude are you kidding? Almost everyone of my old game buddies wish for a console multiplayer for halo ce. And all the people who loved and knew halo since the beginning, will die to play the original multiplayer. That old game is what made halo so popular, and I'm sure everyone prefers original of anything, songs, foods, movies, games, ectc.

Reach sucks, motion blur, blah blah blah. CE was and is still the joint, and I will buy it at full price and enjoy it that way. If you say you won't, you're full of blam.
