Subject: Group new Hawtness... Growing list of group improvements,,,

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

from my short time here (2 year anniversary today WOOT) with this community I have noticed groups don't get updated much. So, I want to make a lost of features/add-ons I want to see in a "new Hawtness" for groups.

-classic mode: Group layout can be from any Bungie layout past, present, OR FUTURE :p. aka, we can have a nav bar in the group.

-Picture and video embedding tags

-1 click PM to all group members

-storage space: allows group leaders to store files for other
users to download in the group. size of digital space depend on
size of the group.

-automatic title earning (except for mods/admins)

-multiple forums in-group

-Group Post history

-Group post count

Those are a few of my ideas and general ideas passed around on the forums. What do you guys think?

I think groups do need a bit of updating, but out of the things you posted only group post history, and maybe PMing all members seem useful.

  • 07.23.2011 7:42 AM PDT

Or you could just have a quality group that only need require thoughtful or funny posts by the member base. You know, so Achronos and his cronies don't have to work on features that will be seldom used and don't have great benefits.

I'd much rather see (Insert Bungie's next project here) website functionality. If it does infact have a web based service.

You know, groups are just as important as the main forums.

I know many people that ONLY post in groups, so why should groups not get many updates/less features?

You complain about taking away time for website functionality but groups are a part of the website and we are improving how they function.

I would stop worrying about the constraints of the web team and offer some ideas for future updates to improve a valuable community feature.

Various Words

I spend almost my entire time on bnet in private groups. I ran two groups that had over 1200 members (One with 2000 at the time), i've lead multiple (at least 5) smaller groups. I've gelled a team together from opposing (dam near warring) groups on bnet into an alliance in an online strategy game. Which i believe is still running (Over 3 years after i left it).

I certainly know a fair amount about the structure and processes involved in using groups here on bnet.

I know many people that ONLY post in groups, so why should groups not get many updates/less features?

Why would they get any MORE features? The group is a sub forum, essentially. If i can't PM all my members easily, can I simply not create a news item that the members who frequent will see if I want to contact them?

If they don't visit regularly what use are they, or is it the numbers that count?

The best groups that originated on Bnet have always grown out of these forums. Thats the natural progression of the groups with any real quality.

Again, I wouldn't worry about what you can't do on here. Look elsewhere, groups on bnet have twiter accounts, youtube channels. They broaden their horizons, you should too.

Just becuase the web team does improvements on groups doesn't mean they can't work on the rest of Bungie.net.

I don't see the big deal in trying to improve the group experience.

I like groups, I like the idea of making a sub forum with people of similar interests.

But, groups are part of Bungie.net and should not be eliminated from change.

I mean, if the mains are getting improved, why leave groups in the dark when like you said, thousands of people use groups.

  • 07.23.2011 8:12 AM PDT

Groups are a sub forum for people with similar interests.

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

These threads are getting kinda old. I think the important thing to note too is that it really isn't going make a difference.
Weather or not you think a group should have different rules, or have the ability for you to manipulate the ones that are already in place, it comes down to reason. Bungie has a reason for the way they do things and unfortunately, when they do take heed of our request, it usually only ends up being on the video game front.
I think they feel like the site serves the purpose that it was meant to and that is enough.

Wall of text = My honest opinion.

There once was an ugly barnacle. He was so ugly that everyone died.

The end.

All of your ideas should be added.

Especially for the bigger, mroe active groups.

Most of these ideas, I think would make the private groups a lot better!

The only ones I don't agree on would be:

-Multiple forums in-group

-Picture and Video embedding tags. (People would use it for the worst, most likely.)

Also, Happy Birthday Spartan Ken 15!

I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

It's funny, because Ken thinks the Web Team is some thousand-strong omnipotent group of people with unlimited resources and time.

I like the group post history idea.

I don't recall ever saying that in any of my posts.

I also know the web team is here to improve Bungie.net and groups are a huge part of Bungie.net.

It only makes sense that time is dedicated to improve Private Groups once in a while.

Yes, I strongly agree with this. I want a goddamn Bungie hat!!!!!

But....to break this down Ken: I'm pretty sure the Bungie web team is more likely to randomly shut down groups one day than upgrade them.

As a mythic that mostly hermits in groups these days I like your ideas, but they're too idealistic to go anywhere.

Well, if enough people want something maybe the web team will consider it.

The PM all members feature would be very useful as long as it could be limited to certain group roles.

I would imagine it would be for Admin only, don't forget that when making security roles you have options to customize them.
