I've been working alot on OFG and found a serious problem: the chapter homepage.

Obviously, the themes are limited, so i won't bother there, nor is this a technical issue.

Rather, the chapter homepage is the dullest part of the Homepage, and i think therein lies the problem.

When i go to OFG or any other chapter, the first thing i want to see is something that resembles the homepage of any respectible website, not some crap that i see normally. There's little that can be done to spice up the homepage, if anything...manipulating the few places where we can post a comment or so. Hell, most chapters have it so that if there's any news to see, you have to actually scroll down the page to see it, and i think that is a huge issue.

The chapter shouldn't be all about appearence, but having a good one definately helps. Right now, i know for a fact that most people justskip the homepage and go straight to the forums in any chapter. If there's a news article, it usually goes unnoticed for several days-months. If someone updated something on the front page, it would require a user to look very hard at the homepage to realize what was different.

I guess what i'm asking for is a little more flexibility, at least with respect the the homepage (which i've said a gagillion times already, and will now refer to it as HP). I would like it to be more like the bungie HP, where you can click on forums somewhere on the right of the page, you can see the name and any news at the very top, and resources and members could be on the left.

The main idea, i guess is for members to be able to keep up with the chapter like they do with bnet...through the ample supply of news. I know some chapters don't really care about it, and for good reason (its so damn hard to get anything noticed), although I use it extensively for weekly updates and changes to the chapter.

Any thoughts? Maybe possible changes occuring?

Yes, unfortunately many people just see groups as "extra forums" when there's so much more content (in some groups) to be discovered.

Got it in one, it is unfortunate for high content groups.

I'd love to see a return of the sidebar. That was always the most customisable feature of the homepage, and really was awesome. It gave a chance to be creative and impress members/prospectives.

As for news, it's posted so infrequently nowadays that people just don't tend to check in any case. Overall, I believe that there are still many ways in which the column can be improved. The sidebar is possibly first and foremost.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

In my main group I post news just about everyday. When I do I tell it also to post it in our forum as well because I know people just skip the frontpage all together. The only thing I can hope for is that somebody that is passing by see's recent news stories and decides to check to see what else we have to offer. It would be nice though to be able to tweak the homepage a bit.

yes, all i'm asking for is a bit of flexibility, because currently there is none. The homepage is like that one place that everyone has to go through but nobody even looks at anymore, and that is a problem.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I think i know what you're getting at. Flexibility is always something the team are undoubtedly going to work on as do any other people managing sites.

I think i'd suggest displaying more content on the homepage with more space for important links etc. Also, as Psyched said, the old sidebar would be awesome (even though we already partially have it)

I also wanted, a while back, an announcement feature for the forums. Like you know how, if Achronos posts in a thread, it has a little seventh column asterisk next to it? Well i wish we had that in our forums, that way we could post important announcements and everyone would be seeing it and its very noticeable.
