Subject: Idea to limit "Wrong forum" threads...

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

We have all seen countless threads that have been in the incorrect forum. Mostly, they are extremely obvious. For example someone asks a question about Halo: Reach (having "Halo: Reach" in their subject) and they post it in the Community forum.

My idea:
For both people who have recently (within 2 weeks) made a Bungie.net account, as well as people who have never created a thread of their own, I think the following should happen.
When they click "Create New Topic", they should be directly linked to something like this article. At the top it, the new article, would say something similar to, "Welcome to the Bungie.net forums" (for people who have recently made their accounts) "Before you make your very own thread, please be sure to post in the correct forum. You will no longer be taken to this article once you have become acquainted with our website."
They would then click on the appropriate forum, and taken directly to the "Create New Topic" page.

Now I realize some people wouldn't take the time to read through the descriptions. I also realize that people will still create topics in the wrong forum. However, I feel as if this is a way to cut down on the frequency of this occurring. This idea directly targets the two groups of people who are most prone to creating threads in the incorrect forum.

Feedback appreciated.

EDIT: Another way to help this is to sticky the forum description article. (In thread form) The article currently, is not easy for new members to find and is often over looked.

The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

I don't think apathy or ignorance can be treated through something as impersonal as an internet forum. Although I wish you luck in finding an actual solution to this (again, I don't think there is one), the amount people that the change you're advocating for would help would be so infinitesimal that it would hardly warrant it.

I disagree. The "change that I'm advocating for" would be substantial in the way that you wouldn't notice it. What I am trying to do is reduce something to 0. You cannot see someone "not posting" a thread in the wrong forum.
I feel as if even if it stops 5-10% (low-balling) of those unknowingly posting in the incorrect forum, it would be worth the few man hours it would take to make my idea actuality. Less clutter = priceless.

Such a bold thing to propose with a site that is not seeing much Bungie activity.

Posted by: squeak52You are assuming anyone is actually going to care enough to take the time to read the rules. If they didn't go to search them out when they first came here, why exactly would they care about them if they are forced in front of them a la a TOU style agreement?

Also, (and this is just a pet peeve of mine) why are you including percentages in this argument at all? I'm assuming that you don't actually have any evidence upon which to base your claims of how effective this would be (since you are privy to exactly none of the statistics about this site's population). As said before, this is essentially a TOU. Common sense would dictate that it would be treated as such; users would click "OK" the second they saw it (instead of reading the article) and be on their way. All this would do is add 5 more seconds to what they were going to do anyway. I still believe the problem isn't that people don't know where to find the rules, it's that they do not care enough to actually read them.

All those threads you are seeing aren't there because the person posted it there by mistake. They are trolling.
