"Defiant Reclaimer, he who will shatter the land and break the sky apart..."

Pretty sure Frankie said they were planning to sort the universe out soon...

So keyes landed on reach, forgot, and then wondered if he could crash on halo

I've been thinking about that.

Since Keyes (humanity in general) had no prior experience with the Halo array, it would only be fair that the Captain has his doubts since his men are on the line.

That is, of course, assuming that "atmosphere" a used in a very ambiguous manner.

  • 07.25.2011 8:50 AM PDT

I started up the heated debate on whether the SPARTAN-II in the cryo tube near the end of Reach is really Linda.
I created the Moa XING avatar pic.
Also I earned the All Star nameplate with this submission to Week 14 All Stars http://www.bungie.net/images/News/Inline11/bwu_0415/art/likea boss.jpg

Did I hear an echo in the forum?

Man, it must suck when the person who created the whole wonderful universe of Halo gets chastised by his fans because he didn't want to follow the story of a book that wasn't written by him. He apparently has no control over the universe that he created from the ground up.

None.

I always thought that the Halo universe was written by more than one person. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

The Covenant weapons are terrible compared to UNSC weapons in-game, and yet the Covenant kicked the UNSC's ass.

Blind Haters!
As far as I can see no event in TFoR has been declared non-canon. So what's the problem? Is it really that bad that some dates were switched and some lines removed?

Im hoping they include a Blind Hater title for the B Universe forums

Yes, so then what in the world is happening in Halo: Reach? Halsey was not at Sword Base, she was at Castle Base with Blue Team. Cortana was not delivered to the PoA by Noble Team, and was created earlier. The artifact or rock at Sigma Octanus IV supposedly contained the coordinates to Halo and not the latchkey.

TFoR would've been more fun to play imo with all the big battles on the ground going on with defending the Super MAC generators, the Orbital Station, Castle Base, there was alot they could've gone through to make a full-length campaign. And I do like armor customization, but it was a bit corny with all the customizable armor Noble had, I miss the old Master Chief classic Mark V look for all the Spartans.

1. Ok first off, it's Red Team, Blue Team was Chief's team sent to purge the Circumference of NAV Data. And second, Halsey goes to CASTLE Base after the mission where Noble Team picks up Cortana ends, did you actually listen to the dialogue? Carter specifically tells Jun to escort Dr. Halsey to CASTLE. And really, Bungie could put her wherever they wanted as long as she got to CASTLE Base by the time Red Team got there.

2. That wasn't Cortana, not the full thing anyway, it was a sub-routine that Halsey divided from the main memory data of Cortana to examine and decipher the the SWORD Artifact. The main portion of Cortana and all her essential functions was already on the Autumn like she was supposed to be. And the game never stated that she was created at that specific time, what made you think that?

3. As far as we know the SWORD Artifact did not contain the location of Alpha Halo. I would not take Halsey's dialogue at the end of Reach as absolute fact, she wasn't on the bridge of the Autumn when it made the jump to Alpha Halo, so she wouldn't really know that Cortana made the jump based off the interpretation that the Sigma Rock was a Starmap.

Meh, I don't think TFoR would have really made that great of a game, and if Bungie had made slight changes to it, I'm sure that people would be -blam!-ing and whining far more than they all ready are. And most of Noble's armor was more in line with their specific in field roles, Jorge was heavily armored because he'd be in a position more out in the open using his turret, Jun has shoulder pads with extra sniper ammo on them and extra pouches on his belt and such for other things his job as sniper would require as well as the cloak or whatever it was he has around his neck to be used as aid in camouflage.

Jesus loves you! But I think you're a -blam!-

Just so long as Bungie doesn't look at the Spartan-II's as fancy armored cheese balls, I'm good.

Okay, I stand corrected on that, I just remember Fred and Kelly being there, so I assumed it was Blue Team, but yeah some others were there, and I assumed it was Cortana being created, and I kind of forgot about the latchkey discovery by then, but knew it had something to do with it.

The Fall of Reach > Halo: Reach

In my eyes, I follow The Fall of Reach as canon. Halo: Reach who?

  • 07.31.2011 1:12 AM PDT

Fall of reach was released alongside Halo CE, and if I remember correctly, Sgt. Johnson was the placeholder "leader" AI and appeared in pretty much any level including marines, I could go on for a while talking about how that is non-canon, without even mentioning the legendary ending. -blam!- changes, get over it. And after reading Halsey's journal, most, if not all canonical errors are reduced do small date errors and minor inconsistencies. All very insignificant, irrelevant details easily retconned in classic Bungie fashion.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

This.

To be honest, when I first saw all this in the weekly update I thought 2 things.
#1- there is an actual legendary ending but,
#2- No matter what anyone does,(kill all the bobs, hit all switches etc) that until the "time" mentioned in "There'll be another time..." is reached there won't be a legendary ending.

The weekly update by bungie has slowed my hardcore search for what unlocks the legendary ending.

@assassin The chief saidd that they always win on the ground. It was the glassing that -blam!- us over.

And that matters why? There is no significance to TFoR being re-released after Reach came out.

I agree. IDK why Bungie just didn't follow TFoR's storyline. I think it would've been more interesting.

1) Because if they did, alot of people would complain that the story is unoriginal. Alot of people are never happy.

E.g people still want more armour in Reach even though we have alot of armour to chose from

2) Bungie didn't want to be extremly limited regarding their story due to a 9 year old book by another company.
since when is this a reason to make an horrible story with cliche characters when the original story is much deper and interesting

Since writers don't want to be held back regarding story, so a long, long time.
true

Halo: The Fall of Reach is the prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved, and is also the first Halo novel to be published. It was written by Eric Nylund, and published on October 30, 2001
Link: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/The_Fall_Of_Reach
Halo: Combat Evolved, often called Halo 1, or Halo is a first-Person Shooter science-fiction video game, created by Bungie Studios, which was a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studios at that time. It was released for the original Xbox game console on November 15, 2001
Link: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo:_Combat_Evolved
'Scuse me for using the wiki, just thought it was the fastest way to find the dates

So in a way, the game, Combat Evolved, was based on a novel written by Eric Nylund, known as Halo: The Fall of Reach.

Interesting...

No. Just no. Bungie was working on Halo CE for a minimum of 3 years if not more before it was released, where as the novel was written in a few months and was written based off of the game that Bungie was making. Microsoft wanted a tie-in book wether Bungie was okay with it or not and hired Nylund for the project at the last minute. He wrote that book INCREDIBLY quickly based off of all the info Bungie probably had about the Halo storyline at the time, and then he made up the rest.

I'm not trying to debate canon or canon heirarchy here with this post, as a fan who wants to experience the universe you can read and accept whatever you like, but it should never be said that Bungie based Halo CE off of the novel The Fall of Reach after all the work they put into the inception of Halo and it's universe from the begining. It was COMPLETELY the other way around.

That and also, the extra thrusters that the PoA used to lift off in the game may have been used (along with who knows what else, from something like several other tugboat-like craft to, well, who knows what else they might use to get a ship not desinged to be there, into atmosphere if needed in the year 2552) to get in down to the surface to begin with. Keyes clearly didn't have ANY of that when trying to land on Halo so his concern would certainly still be warranted.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

The fact that they released "Halsey's Journal" is both stupid and irresponsible. Bungie prides themselves on their deep, interactive stories but is reduced to correcting all of their errors in a book that's not even available in the standard addition? Give me a break.

...Halsey's journal gave us alot more depth into the various aspects of the events surrounding the years before and after the Spartan II program, on top of that it didn't "correct" anything as it instead gave evidence to support the new retcons. Also it was meant to be a treat for those of us who would care about the story, aka the people who would pay for the higher editions. Anyone who buys standard prob. wouldn't care about the journal. So far it was a smart and pretty responsible move in my eyes.
