Subject: Depth in Halo Universe is Unmatched

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

The depth is there all right, it's just that Fallout is pretty slow paced and very story focused. So take some time, enjoy the scenery and talk to the people in the wasteland, Fallout is easily one of the best RPG's ever.
However not everyone can take the time to read scribbles on the walls or note book papers or even the documents on PC's, but don't knock it cause you can't take the time to enjoy it.

Star Wars literally covers thousands of years.

With the Forerunner trilogy, the Halo universe is also expanding a few 100 000 years or so. Yes, Star wars has more stories and underlying characters and themes alotted into those years but Halo can expand exponentially. It has the oppurtunity to open many doors because alot of the story is left open ended.

I find that. although there are only a few species in the Covenant, their side of the story should be shown a bit more in detail. I find the hierach fascinating and I know that 343 Industries has the budget and capability as well as a good enough reputation to hire some novelists for a 'Covenant series'.

Halo does has depth, and it will surely get more expansive as time goes on. The problem is fragmentation, passing Halo from author to author it becomes broken and inconsistent (see the Star Wars EU).

But to say its unmatched is a bit naiive. Star Wars and Star Trek are the easy ones that more than match Halo for depth, but then these shows are old, really old. Star Trek is coming up to 50 years old.

In the video game genre Halo is way up there, perhaps only bested by Fallout though I'm sure there are some other series that are impressively expansive. Fallout is the only other video game universe that has grabbed my interest to the same extent as Halo.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Mass Effect > Halo

That's with just the games alone.

Expansive, though, doesn't necessarily imply depth. Dune, for example, may only have a dozen or so novels in total but I will argue strongly that it has much more meat to it than the Star Wars or Star Trek universes because it goes so much farther with it's subject material.

And Halo hardly goes anywhere. There are some rich character driven stories but not many of them at all have much in the way of literary merit or even just a point beyond entertainment. People live, they die, but arbitrarily and for our amusement which creates an equally arbitrary and amusing universe. It's perhaps a fair shot better than Aliens, but it's nothing more than Power Rangers for an older demographic compared to Foundation or even just Ring World.

Halo is pretty good, but it is nothing compared to Star Wars.

Star Wars. It dominates Halo with just the games. All the different stories...Hell I think KOTOR beats Halo alone!

Seriously halo's depth is the biggest ive ever seen...By depth i mean story and its addiction.....
Lemme put it this way...
Halos story is about a species that was at great might....they had many enemys but they made it thru without even destroying the enemy...they protected everyone every one even the ones they didnt have too...suddenly an old enemy came...it was so strong it had the might of all the enemys they have defeated all togther ...it was a parasite...
Too live on it needed mass and so in a drastic action the forerunners decide to make a weapon to destroy everything instead of giving it all to the parasite...they knew they would sacrafise all to start again and so they killed everyone...
And after a few years this dumb-blam!-s almost killed themselfs phh....(lol jking jking)
And after a long time life has been restored...and a great war happens between the ones the forerruners tried to save so desperatly...and a an old enemy emerges...it is the FLOOD it is intellegent and is by far more stronger than before...and the story continues about a single solider and a naked chick that fight their way through the impossible they defeat a threat that is undefeatable they unlock the secrets burried eons ago ...but the story is not yet finished...the fight is still on...
Halo 4 is coming to explain us what happend...
Seriously i would rather know halo fully than learn some star wars that has some stupid plot line in it...and remember that everything in halo MIGHT be possible in the future...ofcourse now it seems impossible but you cant proove that it is impossible so go and finish your fight....

(seriously why the hell did i write all that i couldve just directed u to halo legends origins 1 and 2)

I do see your point when it comes to the 'fragmentation' of Halo's story, however I feel that it is a good thing to change the author of a collection of books (let's say the foreunner series should remain Greg Bear's and his alone), and that each series should have a different author, to add variety and flavor to the plot.

Sometimes its good for the story because you don't always read about Spartans killing the covenant and you get a more human element. On another note, some authors tend to get more canonical information into their books than others, but I wouldn't want that alone.

Are you joking? The Haloverse is quite underdeveloped in terms of sci-fi universes.

Star Trek, Star Wars, and various novels have universes with more depth. However, I do think that the Halo Universe is a lot of fun.

Who needs stories and cannons anyway? It's all about hardcore MLG pro multiplayer.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

I guess if you want to go by genre, I can understand the claim, whether I agree with it or not.

Go outside of that genre and Halo will pale in comparison to a number of both famous and underground fictional works.

Guide to Canon in the Halo Universe

Im a Bungie veteran. I have and always will serve them well.

I think it is a very well in-indepth universe and pretty excited to see the corners of the universe that 343 is letting us explore.

whenevr I buy a game, i make sure it's campaign is brilliant with a rich story. Yes, in terms of replay ability multiplayer is better, however, I feel that for a game to really get me hooked in its multiplayer it needs to deliver a compelling story that drives the eventual multiplayer experience. Halo succeeds delightfully in my opinion.

Halo has alot of potential of becoming great.

Just hope we do not have another Lucas wannabe come in and ruin it like Star Wars where nearly every single thing that was canon and was liked by majority of the Star Wars fan was chucked out of the window -blam!-ed on an then make a new even more horrible story.
And yes one of my biggest hatred after the prequals is the clone wars saga. I feel like killing everyone in that universed. Everything has been messed up. AAARGHH

I reckon that's going to surpass halo with mass effect 3. Oblivion and skyrim seem to be massive games. Looking forward to spending a monstrous amount of time with it.
