So, here is what I have learned from this thread: you can take one very vague statement, combine it with material whose validity is largely disputed, and claim it as fact that cannot be contradicted no matter what.

I'm sure that I will win lots of research money with that philosophy.

2 statements which are both direct, and the only one person disputes the information because he doesn't like it, and nothing contradicts anything i have in the OP.

Do not panic, or you will fail.

Now it is 100 percent clear that the neither the UNSC or Covenant will be in halo 4 if not the entire trilogy.
There is your problem. I have said, multiple times in fact, that what you presented could happen. However, since there is multiple factors working against you (the fact that the "no purple" quote "had to been seen live", possible canonical errors in the encyclopedia) means that you very well could be wrong. And you have a problem admitting that.

1. Elites are not Covenant. It was a pretty big deal about them not being Covenant. They are also not Purple anymore. They used green paint in support of their Human allies on the Ark.
2. Who says she has to die at that set time frame? She has more data than all the past human AI combined, specifically forerunner data. Their AI has no set time limit, and only partial instability which could be credited to thousands of years in complete isolation.

Guys, just to clear up the confusion of the majority of you being retards and clearly ignoring my pot on page 12/13, I have already explain that grey's interpretation is bias and incorrect, and them majority of you completely ignored my point and continued a -blam!- idiotic argument over inconclusive statements.

Thank you for your time.

No. Have you read OP's posts? Also have you read my posts about why UNSC and Covenant won't be there?

There. will. be. no. Covenant. or. UNSC. at. Halo. 4.

  • 08.10.2011 11:38 PM PDT

I agree that it would be a long shot for the Covenant or UNSC to appear in Halo 4 but I believe that they will be mentioned. It wouldn't make sense to new players if it wasn't.

Ex: Conversations explain how he got there = not confused player.

No Hints of how he got there = Kid wondering why a Super soldier is drifting in space in a smashed up ship.

Actually in regards to number 1 Frankie did not say anything of the sort. I recall digging up a vid on Justin Tv when the quote was said in a thread where Coma was asking for it.

The origin of the quote comes from one of the editors of Kotaku talking during the pre-show of Spike's E3 coverage. He was speaking of how he believed the studio's main work ethic or mantra (the exact words escape me at the moment) for the upcoming trilogy will be based on the principles of leaving out purple and how that theme will be apparent in the yet to be seen teaser trailer.

In other words you are mad with the idea and have no counter explanation for it.

I don't see the correlation of "No UNSC or Covenant" to writing the story. As if there aren't other races that have an important role in the universe.

"deepest desires"? lol and no this isn't trolling, i am just going off the information we have now.

http://www.halopedian.com/Halo:_Glasslands

Set after the events of Halo 3 in 2553, Halo: Glasslands will explore the volatile political situation in the Halo universe following the end of the Human-Covenant War.

Though the story of the characters from Ghosts of Onyx will be continued in the novel and they will play a pivotal role, Frank O'Connor mentioned that the focus of the story moves into "something really different"; a UNSC black ops team sent by the Office of Naval Intelligence on a diplomatic mission to Sanghelios.

Led by Captain Sarah Osbun, a failed SPARTAN-II candidate and a protege of ONI director Margaret O. Parangosky, the team consists of two Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, Vaz and Mal, and the AI construct Black Box. They are accompanied by a civilian academic known as Evan Phillips, who is notably one of the few humans fluent in the Sangheili language.

The team's allegiances are tested as they are asked to commit questionable actions, including surrendering a captured Huragok to the ONI. At one point, they meet with the survivors from the Battle of Onyx.

It has also been mentioned that the Office of Naval Intelligence will be fleshed out and the moral implications of the SPARTAN-II Program and those involved with it - including Dr. Catherine Halsey - will be explored.

In addition, Sangheili culture and the impact the sundering of the Covenant had on their society will be explored in detail.

It has been noted that threads of the story will have connections to Halo 4.

Um... it proves nothing. Connections to Halo 4 does not mean that Covenant or UNSC will be there at Halo 4... *facepalm*

It will only hint some things about Halo 4 so far, like Halo CEA's terminals.

And thread isn't worthless...

I don't know why you still argue that Halo 4 should have Covies or whatever because you want to fight against them again? New Flash for you: There's already six Halo games for that. Go play that games.

Like I said, there is lot of reason that why Covenant and UNSC won't be appearing at Halo 4, period. Move on and let us fight against possible enemies: Flood or Precursors or new alien species and possible allies: Forerunners.

It is evidence in their favour. Yes, it does not prove that they will because it is not explicit, but it is nevertheless evidence in their favour.

Have you read the book yet?

From what I gather from the Sparkast interview, this book deals with relations between the UNSC and the Covenant factions. What threads can link to Halo 4 from such a book if the UNSC and Covenant are excluded?

I don't think I have ever seen anyone in this thread say that they want to fight the Covenant again. I may be wrong as this is a very long thread which I have not read in entirety. Personally I would like to see more of the UNSC and Covenant races fighting alongside each other, and to see how things have developed between the two. The Separatists and UNSC fighting together was one of the few saving graces Halo 3 had in my opinion.

There is really not, and I am surprised at you two for touting this as 100% fact, and not due to a technicality in the nature of theories, but in that the evidence is simply unacceptable to older fans.

I wish I had never opened my mouth now about that Believe date.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

I don't like that they are leaving out the main factions of the game. I also don't think the new trilogy will be very good. I have a few reasons to believe this:

1.) New Company: 343i is a fairly new company. The only game they have made is Halo: Waypoint, so they don't have a lot of experience working together.

2.) Big Franchise: 343i is taking on Halo, one of the biggest franchises in video games, and making new games for it. This gives them a lot to live up to when, as said previously, they don't have a lot of experience.

3.) Lack of Drive: What I mean by this is there might not be as much as a drive in the plot. In the classic Halo games, humanity might go extinct because of The Covenant. I don't think fighting for survival will be as thrilling as that.

I have respect for 343i, but I just don't think they will live up to the franchise.

To back up my statements on why Covenant won't be coming back as thanks to Grey provided the source since I do not have Evolution novel currently.

Sigh* halo evolutions page 506-507

"....But it was not long before the primitive nature of the brutes pulled their fighting cohesion apart and split their new power among several internecine struggles. The prophets had largely disappeared..... some elite commanders continued to fight the many scattered remnants of the former covenant wherever they could be found, but not all.

After six long years of this scattered war, elite power had begun to wane right along with their drive to fight.... but since the prophets controlled all of the major learnings that transformed forerunner gifts, the elites now largely lacked the understanding to build new facilities and weapons themselves. they steadily lost ships that they could not easily repair, let alone replace them. their time seemed to be running out. Page 517

... The covenant threat is lifted for the moment....but i doubt the agreement with the elites with the other covenant species."

There are no "covenant loyalist" there is no covenant. the elites not even at whole some of them are hunting down the reminds due to their honor being tarnished. The elites are running out of ships and are far too busy to have anything to do with halo 4.

So here you go.

It would seem many people don't know the difference between opinion and evidence either.

We don't know anything really about the storyline in Halo 4 except it is likely to start on the Artifact we see at the end of Halo 3.

We don't know if we will stay there.
We don't know if we will even go there to be honest, it may be some portal-thing for all we know.

Trying to definitively say "No Covenant" or "No UNSC" based on one throwaway line and a whole lot of assumptions does not make a compelling argument.

  • 08.17.2011 1:03 PM PDT

Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day =)

So basically unless 343i decides to change the canon of the halo universe like Bungie did with Reach, Master Chief won't be returning home. Either that or he just dies and gets listed as MIA with the rest of the dead spartans.

At least thats the only for sure evidence I can gather from the OP. Other than that I havent seen any definite proof that the Covenant will or wont be in H4.

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Frankie says Halo 4 isn't that far apart from Halo 3 in terms of timeline. Encyclopedia says Chief is still missing post 2600. That seems enough for me.
