Subject: Halo 4 Speculation

Wow, just wow!

The other day, I went through Dr. Halsey's journal (sounds horrible, but I'm not the only one) and noticed a few peculiar things. My mind went to all the speculation on the Halo 4 trailer. Stick with me, it's a rather long read.

CHIEF'S ARMOR

My first theory deals with the armor Chief is wearing. The other deals with Cortana's sanity.

First off, I want to make sure you understand that I know Frankie has said there is a reason for the new armor.

But in absence of said reason, I cannot help but speculate.
I would just like to point to the notes of Dr. Halsey in her Limited Edition journel.

She makes a list of all the features she wants Mark VI to have.
She lists...
-Active stealth package
-Next-gen EVA technology
-Possible Covenant-enabled technologies....
-Modular environmental packages that can be field swapped
-Improved antiplasma shield layers
-Active AI transfer protocols
-Biofoam injector
-Radar, thermal, and motion-tracking packages
-Next-gen PZ(piezoelectric) material systems.

As you can see, I have highlighted two possible explanations that involve Chief's armor being Mark VI.

Next-gen EVA technology would make sense, as the thrusters shown in the trailer do not look strong enough to lift the Chief off the ground in normal gravity. But it must've been present in Chief's armor.

Main argument against this explanation? It was never used in zero-g environments in any other Halo game.

The other involves field swappable components. It could be possible that the thrusters shown could've been a replacement for a damaged back piece that was found on the Forward Unto Dawn. It would also make sense because the Chief would want these thrusters being in space for extended periods of time.

I have not heard any arguments against this theory, as I don't peruse this forum often.

CORTANA'S LIFESPAN

Next subject- Cortana.

People say she is near rampancy or has already gone rampant. They theorize that Cortana can not survive the new trilogy, as she is nearing the end of the 7 year life-span of smart AI.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I do enjoy alternate theories.

In Dr. Halsey's journal, it says, "I've devised new matrix strata with random-access optical couplers that can theoretically extend this lifespan; by exactly how much, I don't know."

These matrices may have been first used in the creation of Cortana. That would give her an unpredictable boost in longevity. The other option is that these matrices were involved in the AI's that "died" after the average 7 years, rendering this piece of information pointless.

Another possible explanation to boost Cortana's lifespan is the fact that part of her was severed, and then reconnected. I'm not sure if this could increase her lifespan at all, but who knows? "It is still a highly experimental process" So it could theoretically work somehow.

Another reason that Cortana could live longer is her cloning from a live human brain. As Halsey said, "Simply put, my third-gen smart AI's require better material." Maybe Halsey's brain is that much better than the average.

My last theory about Cortana is Halsey's design, "To palliate this frenzied cutting behavior, I've developed a new theoretical architecture with three AIs arranged in a parallel. All decisions would be made by majority vote. If one abstains, the tie resolves randomly."

This could apply in a variety of manners. Cortana could meet up with two other AIs in the course of Halo 4 to maintain her sanity. If Bungie was continuing the series, I would hypothesize the AI's would be Durandal and Joyeuse. Although Durandal takes place in a different Bungie game, it does seem as if Marathon and Halo are connected in some ways. Joyeuse would be the mysterious new AI.

(Side Note: This trio of AI also explains the Data Pads If you notice that the word "majority" is used often, and they mention, "But we are Minds electronically excised from human bodies" It also appears that they reached out and made contact with the Covenant before the humans even knew they were there.

Of course, this has probably already become common knowledge)

Microsoft could also add their own twist about the trio of AI. Anything would work. They're delving into a previously unexplored region of Halo-lore.

Before I close, I would like to add one last theory. This one is about events in Halo 4. Once again, I pull all source material from Halsey's journal.

My theory involves meeting more SPARTAN-II's. But not the ones trapped in ONYX. But rather, the SPARTAN's that were crippled as a result of the augmentation.

"Bodies of augmentation washouts are cryogenically preserved, pending further study. Perhaps one day we'll discover ways to ameliorate or reverse lethal side effects and revive some, if not all, of them."

She also talks about restoring the SPARTAN's that were assigned desk jobs to former glory.

"One protocol already looks promising: the complete bone restructuring and attendant nanografts to effectively replace the skeletal system in toto; this may prove especially useful for Rene or Kirk"

"Planning is under way for experimental surgery.....for more than 80% of the washouts."

One thread sites a source that claims that ONI knew about the planet the Chief is approaching. Perhaps ONI allocated a few of the reconstituted SPARTAN's as escorts or a bonus fighting force.

If you've stuck with me through my aimless rambling, I thank you, but for those that require it-

TL;DR
There are several facts found in Halsey's journal that support Master Chief's armor being MARK VI, as well as a lengthened lifespan for Cortana. I also extrapolate for a SPARTAN-II cameo in Halo 4.

I would like to close by reinforcing the fact that all of this is personal speculation, extrapolated from info stumbled upon in Halsey's journal.

Wow, just wow!

Shameless bump. I spent way too much time making this to have it fall to page 3 before a single reply. Even if it's common knowledge, just let me know.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

He is still wearing Mark 6, ignore the CGI visuals.

There is no lifespan for UNSC AI's since they are deleted after 7 years. we don't know how long they normally live.

ONI doesn't know where the planet is because chief is still missing atleast up until 2689.

And give me a link to that oni part

Wow, just wow!

"ONI part" I guess the OP must've used some leak source or something. Might want to look around for a quote of the OP since it is no longer there.

Also- I never said it wasn't MARK VI. And in Halsey's journal it says the death of a smart AI is inevitable. Also- "current-gen smart AI's have a mean average lifespan of a few years" They would become so occupied with self preservation, that they would self-terminate on accident.

Yes we all know of the Sigma 7 thing in which frankie retorted by saying "bullshirt" in which we assume 99 percent of that is wrong.

You do know that the forerunner AIs don't have a lifespan? halsey is working on limited knowledge though i understand you are saying all current human AIs will indeed die.

Yes I was referring to human AI as I was applying that phrase to Cortana. And Mendicant Bias's existence does prove the immortality of Forerunner AI.

And even if the Sigma 7 thing is "bullshirt", ONI may or may not have known about it. (Most likely did not know, but it is always open for speculation. That's all I'm doing here.

Bias is proof along with the installation monitors along with "the knowing". Forerunner AI's don't have a lifespan.

ONI knows as much about "Sigma 7" as they do about onyx
