Subject: Bungie Forums Feature - "Strikeout"

Come on over to Moving Up for your primary help and Q&A source.

"A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to."

I've haven't been on here that long to tell if it was here before, but on most forums you can have the option to strike through your text, giving different effects depending on the sentence and subject. For example, if making a list of theories and one has been busted, you could have it struck through:
Example Strikeout

- Example Theory
- [s]Busted Theory[/s]
- Example Theory

You could use it for a number of things on different topics. I would like being able to use it, sure some would abuse it but they'll never learn any way, so it only draws the line between the mature people and immature people.

Discuss what you think of the idea and whether it should be an available option on the Bungie forums.

Whisper Game Studios - shhhh, it's a public secret.
Webcam MVP
Sarsion.net
Bnet PM Policy

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

Know what's even easier than that?

Deleting the characters. Or indicating that it's a busted theory by...*drumroll*...saying that it is.

I wouldn't mind having that text markup.

Sure, but then you can't do that thing with the text where you show you were going to say one thing and then said another.

Like if I were to call you a [s]dolt[/s] really awesome guy. :-P

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

A strikeout is common for BB code. It makes me wonder why the Webteam disabled it. Would be nice if they enabled it. Does more good than harm, imo.

I think the Flood might go a tad overboard with it.

It would be good for humour occasionally.

Like most other threads in this forum it has been made before, and the addition of this feature gained support.

Nothing happens.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I agree with SJ here. I say we get the ability to use Tab before Strikeout, it's more of a fundamental =P.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

It'd only be a matter of time before people just start lumping them together, I think my eyes will bleed after reading posts in strikeout, italics, bold, and underlined. I'm in support if they make it so you could only strikeout that text and add no other code to it.

Yes, tab first.

You're right, this is completely unreadable!

That's without strikethrough. The bold actually makes it better though.

I don't really like italics though, so my opinion is pretty biased. Bolded italics looks better, however I still stand by the fact that someone will find a way to turn it into a troll tool. People posting completely in strikethrough would get old, however I would assume that it would become just as rare as people posting entirely in underlines and italics.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

The only reason for using strike-through is for really poor jokes, therefore I too feel we should be able to use it.

I <3 you too Bungie

Seems like people would only use it to troll by quoting and crossing out each other. It's just a graphical way of communicating your disapproval of something. I don't really see the benefit.

Seems like I hate new ideas and fear change. A dinosaur is me.
Right, because I can't troll you with quotes as it is.

j/k, partially. :-P

Indeed. I haven't had XBL for a long time, but I still come on her everyday.

The only BBCode tags which I would like to see enabled are ordered and unordered lists. Those would be quite useful.

  • 07.27.2011 10:39 AM PDT

I've been here a decent amount of time to know you're all crazy

People always try to give this reason, but the irony is that with bold, italics, and underline, any can be used for spam. I'm sure this feature would be abused in some cases just like all the other formats, but we would just do the same thing we've done for years. Report and move on.
I say yes to this feature

Why can't we use tab again?

You used to be able to add special characters such as bullets to posts, right? I forget why they disabled those though

People give this reason because it's true. It's just an unnecessary function that the Bungie web team feels we shouldn't have access to.
